vrod_rink
I have a Gigabyte GA-EP45T-DS3R. This has 2 onboard Realtek 8111C NIC's. I've never been real happy, with the performance/CPU utilization with these chips. Also Bonjour Never worked So I started looking, for a better card. So I found that Snow Leopard had a 82574L driver. I did some research, and the Intel Pro/1000 CT card is an 82574L chip. So I purchased it for $29.00 from newegg. I powered down the unit. I installed the card. Powered the unit back up, and disabled all of the onboard NIC's(realtek), in the BIOS. I booted the system, and the card was not recognized. So I started doing research, and found that other people have tried this, and it didn't work. So I started doing research, and figured out how to get it to work. So with the Intel Card, All the features work, including Bonjour. So what I finally got to work after much investigation, #1, go into /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/Intel82574L/Contents directory Edit the Info.plist, and change the IOPCIPrimaryMatch to IOPCIMatch put in 0x10d38086 in place of 0x104b8086 removed the 0x10f68086 then removed the IOPCISecondarymatch key and the String after it. I then rebooted with PCI-EFI, and used the -f and -v flags, to force it to load all the drivers. MacOSX, initialized the 82574L driver, and read the MAC address properly... I Went into System Preferences, and configured the Ethernet, and it got an IP address via DHCP. I then used the Kext Utility, to regenerate the system caches, and the /Extra/Extensions.mkext files. I ran iperf, and got an extra 120Mbits per second throughput. Another very cool thing.. Not only does Time machine still work, but now Bonjour works. I can see all the other macs, and the Printers, that support Bonjour.. This is too dang cool. Also, it takes less CPU horsepower, and get's more throughput...
