zero10
I am having an issue when I try to install OSX 10.5.7 on my computer. Here are the specs of my machine: Asus P5E-VM DO Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 eVGA GeForce 8800GTS 320MB The P5E-VM DO has an Intel 82566DM-2 NIC and ALC883 audio on-board. I have attempted installs from iDeneb 1.5.1 and iAtkos V7 with the same result. During installation I have attempted to select all of the proper drivers for my hardware, however after boot my video card does not work properly (trapped at 1024x768) and my network/audio devices are not recognized (nothing shows). I checked the system log and see the following error for pretty much every related kext it tries to load: Dec 10 02:50:00 chriss-macpro31 kernel[0]: Resetting IOCatalogue. Dec 10 02:50:00 chriss-macpro31 kextd[10]: 0 cached, 411 uncached personalities to catalog Dec 10 02:50:01 chriss-macpro31 com.apple.kextd[10]: /System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/Unsupported.kext/Unsupported: Undefined in symbol set: _sha1_hardware_hook Dec 10 02:50:01 chriss-macpro31 kextd[388]: loaded version 2.4 of module com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily differs from requested version 2.6 Dec 10 02:50:01 chriss-macpro31 kextd[388]: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/NVDANV40Hal.kext Dec 10 02:50:02 chriss-macpro31 com.apple.kextd[10]: /System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/Unsupported.kext/Unsupported: Undefined in symbol set: _sha1_hardware_hook Dec 10 02:50:02 chriss-macpro31 kextd[389]: loaded version 1.2.0 of module com.apple.iokit.IOACPIFamily differs from requested version 1.2.0 (UUIDs differ) Dec 10 02:50:02 chriss-macpro31 kextd[389]: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext Dec 10 02:50:02 chriss-macpro31 com.apple.kextd[10]: /System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/Unsupported.kext/Unsupported: Undefined in symbol set: _sha1_hardware_hook Dec 10 02:50:02 chriss-macpro31 kextd[390]: loaded version 2.4 of module com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily differs from requested version 2.6 Dec 10 02:50:02 chriss-macpro31 kextd[390]: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/Apple16X50Serial.kext Dec 10 02:50:02 chriss-macpro31 kextd[10]: cannot resolve dependencies for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/Apple16X50Serial.kext/Contents/PlugIns/Apple16X50ACPI.kext Dec 10 02:50:02 chriss-macpro31 com.apple.kextd[10]: /System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/Unsupported.kext/Unsupported: Undefined in symbol set: _sha1_hardware_hook Dec 10 02:50:02 chriss-macpro31 kextd[391]: loaded version 2.4 of module com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily differs from requested version 2.6 Dec 10 02:50:02 chriss-macpro31 kextd[391]: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleIntel8254XEthernet.kext Dec 10 02:50:02 chriss-macpro31 com.apple.kextd[10]: /System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/Unsupported.kext/Unsupported: Undefined in symbol set: _sha1_hardware_hook Dec 10 02:50:02 chriss-macpro31 kextd[392]: loaded version 2.0.0 of module com.apple.iokit.IOSCSIArchitectureModelFamily differs from requested version 2.0.9 Dec 10 02:50:02 chriss-macpro31 kextd[392]: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext Dec 10 02:50:02 chriss-macpro31 com.apple.kextd[10]: /System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/Unsupported.kext/Unsupported: Undefined in symbol set: _sha1_hardware_hook Dec 10 02:50:02 chriss-macpro31 kextd[393]: loaded version 2.4 of module com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily differs from requested version 2.6 Dec 10 02:50:02 chriss-macpro31 kextd[393]: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext Dec 10 02:50:02 chriss-macpro31 com.apple.kextd[10]: /System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/Unsupported.kext/Unsupported: Undefined in symbol set: _sha1_hardware_hook Dec 10 02:50:02 chriss-macpro31 kextd[394]: loaded version 2.4 of module com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily differs from requested version 2.6 Dec 10 02:50:02 chriss-macpro31 kextd[394]: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/VoodooHDA.kext I ran kextstat and it shows that version 2.4 of com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily is loaded, but when I check in the system extensions folder the version there is 2.6. I tried manually loading version 2.6 but it complains that version 2.4 is already loaded. I tried clearing Extensions.mkext and rebuilding the cache but still version 2.4 is loaded (even though I can't find it anywhere) What is causing the _sha1_hardware_hook error, and is it related to the problem I am having with IOPCIFamily? This error prevents me from using my network adapter at all, or my display adapter properly so it is kind of serious and important to me. Any help would really be appreciated. I should have mentioned, I also tried doing an installation without any extra drivers selected of both distributions and after this it boots without any of these errors, but as soon as I install the packages (either using the .pkg or the DVD installer) I get the same errors and the devices do not work. Before every installation I format the drive to make sure it is not a problem being carried forward. Lord_Jeremy
Hmm. There's a program called Pacifist that can be used to open up packages. I'd open up the packages of the drivers you are trying to install and see what they're actually putting in. I'd also check the /Extra directory to see what else is being loaded. It's possible there's some conflict going on. Do you know if the extra drivers you're trying to install work with the versions of Leopard you're installing? They may even be intended for Snow Leopard. zero10
Thanks for the advice, the packages I am using come straight from the installation DVD and they install only the kext itself, I have checked them. I tried a couple of other packages I found online and they seem to be identical and produce the same results when I try to use them. The /Extra directory, I will check into that. I just couldn't figure out where it was finding version 2.4 of IOPCIFamily to load it from. It wants version 2.6, version 2.6 is there but 2.4 was getting loaded. I am kind of new to OSX and BSD in general (coming from a linux background) so I figure I must be missing something really obvious to the more experienced users. I'll let you know what I find Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/201913-comappleiokitiopcifamily-version-24-not-26-problem/#findComment-1358741 Share on other sites
zero10
Okay, I found the problem and I feel like an idiot I didn't mention this because I didn't think it was relevant (yeah we've all heard that 100 times...). After the installation it would never install the bootloader properly, so I always had to reboot from the disc and use "rd=disk0s1" to boot my installation. I did this before on 10.5.2 and never had an issue (since I only booted into OSX from time to time I didn't care if it was easy to do), but apparently I mis-understand the OSX boot process. By doing it this way it loads the kernel from the disc, NOT from my hard drive, so it was loading kernel 9.5.0 instead of 9.7.0 which was installed (and that all of my modules were for). I installed a proper boot loader and now when I boot to the OSX partition almost everything works. My network and video work. Although it detects my 320MB 8800GTS as a 128MB card, and my audio doesn't work but I am sure the answers to these issues are somewhere in this forum, I'm going to dig until I find them. If I check my kernel version now it shows 9.7.0 like it should and version 2.6 of IOPCIFamily is getting loaded.
