rs2.pt
Hello I hope I am at right forum... I am about to upgrade my crapy Athlon XP, win xp, so I finnaly install a Mac OSX. I was very enthusiast about AMD64, but read recently on this forum that mac osx is not (maybe yet) 64bit, so I assume that will only work as 32bit on AND64, and the 64 bit features on this cpu will be wasted. I intent to use, maybe, Parallel sometimes to run some old XP stuff. At this point what could be best recomend, less trouble, cpu to install OSX? - intel simple core (maybe those with lot of cache) - intel dual core? - AMD64? - Sempron? Also I have 2 good deals: - 170Euros / Intel Pentium 4 550 3.4 GHz Socket 775 1066 MHz bus In a Box (1mb cache) - 139Euros / Intel Pentium D 805 2.8Ghz Bus: 800 MHz (200MHz x2 Core x2 Bus) 2mb cache (1mb+1mb) 90nm Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (EM64T), Execute Disable Bit Feature (NX) witch could be better coice? dual core? thanx [edited later - bold] Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/20184-recomended-cpu-intel-simple-dual-core-amd-64/ Share on other sites
asap18
i personally use a p4 640 3.2 ghz and everything just works like it should. Although your 550 is .2 ghz faster the 640 is about a 100 dollars cheaper and has 2 mb of cache. Rather spend that on some extra ram. Your experience in os x will also benefit from a good motherboard. Try and get a 915g or 945 as the graphics get full support. P.S. The pentium d might be a good choice if your doing heavy multitasking. bofors
I hope I am at right forum... Umm.. no. This is for real Macs. the 915g or 945 are integrated graphics on board? or chipset? These are Intel chipsets, the intergrated graphics chips are the GMA 900 and 950 respectively. Since you are in Europe, you might be able to get an Asus P5LD2-V (Intel 945G chipset with GMA 950). This is an excellent choice for overclocking an Intel Pentium D 805 or 920 for OSx86.
