Yes I'm having the same problem. Thought it was due to my ATI Radeon 4870 which was only displaying in 1024x768 resolution, but that's all fine now and the blank Preview remains...

An update - realised I was getting these problems because my card (ATI Radeon HD4870) was not running in QE/CI (which I didn't realise existed!).

Easiest way to test - open Chess and see if you can move the pieces. If not, QE/CI is not running.

I upgraded to 10.6.2 and then followed the instructions in this thread - I've got an ATI Radeon 4870, not a 4890, but it all worked perfectly first time.

I can now view pictures with Preview and take screen captures. I think these issues were all caused by lack of QE/CI support. Anyone else who is stuck with this problem, investigate this first.

the problem is with your intel graphics series 4 you don't have quartz extreme enabled.you can't enable it for this card at the present time so the easiest way to view pictures is to download and install a different picture viewer JustLoooking and Picasa are a couple that will work

I know that my graphics didn't support the quartz extreme. But the preview.app works perfectly on my ideneb 10.5.8 distro. I can take a screenshot and preview any image using preview.app

I had my preview.app working good after i installed Snow Leopard 10.6.0. I guess after i upgraded it using 10.6.4 Combo Update, i noticed preview.app displays blank. it seems fine when i would view it from other image application. another thing i notice is it did the same thing on iphoto and VLC media player, i could hear a sound playing but all i see is a blank (black) image.

so i did some experiment (i don't want to mess up with my existing system), i installed another SL 10.6.4 on another harddisk and made it ( VLC and Preview.app) working again. it's time to put it back to my original harddisk and saving aside all my important files. so i decided to just format my harddisk and restored my experiment disk to into it. having a exactly the same disk i assumed it will work perfectly. unfortunately, on my original disk it is still doing the same thing, a blank or grey image. i started fixing it since i was able to do it before on the experimental disk. still no luck!

i'm starting to give up, but decided to give it another try. so, i stick both disk and went to all files in the System/Library/Extensions and started comparing all the kext that was installed on both harddisk. eventuallly, i found one missing on my harddisk and install it using 'kext helper b7.app'. and boot it this time with my disk. walla! it's working perfectly!!!

here's file i added/installed.

GeForceGLDriver.bundle (version 1.6.16)

Gigabyte GA-G41MT-US2L, Intel Core 2 Solo 3.2 Ghz, Sata Harddisk,

Nvidia Quadro FX570 PCIe 256mb (GraphicsEnabler=OFF, since not supported)

OS X 10.6 retail DVD plus 10.6.4 combo update

myHack Intaller 1.1.4.mpkg

Nawcom bood cd

audio - working

build-in lan - working

video -resolution working using 10.6.4 nvenabler-nvinject

by the way, the experimental harddisk wasn't mine, i borrowed it.
