azeworai
Hi everyone, I've an OSX 10.5.6 install on my dell mini (8gb stock ssd). The problem is because of the limited space on the OS drive, I moved my profile to my 8GB SDHC card(class 6 Formatted in Journaled Mac format). Recently the card burnt out when I was trying to do something else with it with my other machines. Thus I am locked out of my mini without the profile on a SDHC. The login screen complains that I cannot login to my profile. Is there a way I can boot into a root account or administrator account? In safe mode, only my profile comes up. Is there a way to create another admin account to login to? I have a backup of my profile sitting on one of my ext hdd's. I have bought a new 16GB SDHC class 6 which came formatted in FAT32. I copied all of my profile back onto the SDHC but somehow my dell mini can't seem to read it(I checked with disk utility from an install disk- can't even find it to reformat it). It can only be read from my linux laptop which is where i copied the files over. My next plan is to try and reformat my new SDHC into a mac journaled format from my linux laptop and copying the profile there to try again. If this doesn't work I'm going to try and reformat the entire install and try to time machine it with my time machine backup. If there's anyone out there who can give me any ideas it'll be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Lord_Jeremy
Hi. Unfortunately, I don't know of any way to add a user without logging in. If memory serves, you can boot into single-user mode, which would give you a command line, but I don't know how to add a user from the command line. You could take a look at this page, which I found by googling "mac single user mode add user". Down in the comments there might be something helpful. Good luck! I'm back on my mini and posting from it! The only hiccup was I lost all my preference settings but all my applications and docs are still in place so its no biggie. I somehow lost the setting of pointing the documents stack to my sdhc too so its a great big question markbut its ok I'll figure it out soon. For other future readers with a similar problem, I created a user as following instructions and I managed to find the SDHC on the created test user account but had trouble reformatting it. Using the partitioning tool from disk utility, I repartitioned the entire SDHC from FAT32 to Mac OSX Journaled and used time machine to restore all of my files back on the SDHC and I'm able to log back into my profile after that.
