desirico
Hey There, So I've been doing a bit of reading and just when I think I'm understanding how to go ahead with my hackintosh install I get confused again. Some say I need to make an image off an existing mac, and have it saved onto a usb stick. others say I can just drop in a cd and go ahead and install but I want to know what is the simplest and most noob friendly way to go about this. A few people I talked to said the lifehacker method worked best for them but said I need to find a different "extra folder" since I have different hardware then whats in that guide. This is what I want: Dual boot option for Snow Leopard and Windows 7 I have a brand new 27" i5 Imac so if I need to grab files and what not from there to get my hackintosh going thats fine. Also since I want dual book would it be best to use separate drives for each OS or can I just partition one? I would like to appologize for asking the same questions others have already asked but just seem so lost. If someone knows of a guide already in existence that would would with a Gigabyte P55-ED4P and i5 chip please let me know Cheers, desirico Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/201231-my-first-hackintosh-ga-p55-ud4p-i5-dual-boot/ Share on other sites
fusion23
I recently finished installing Snow Leopard and upgrading to 10.6.2 on my GIGABYTE P55A-UD4P motherboard with core i5 and GeForce 7800 GTX . It seems stable, but I haven't got audio to work yet, but it should be possible since similar onboard audio works for other people. I'll post a longer reply when I get home from work tonight. Its not too hard to install. fusion23
go here and follow his guide (the new one looks easy): http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/ this sounds like it should work and is even easier and faster than the approach I took. I used the thumb drive approach which requires: 1. 8 GB or larger thumb drive 2. copy the retail snow leopard disc to the thumbdrive 3. modify and add certain files onto the thumbdrive to allow it boot (according to install guide) 4. install os x 5. install kexts (drivers) for network and audio go here for the above approach I used: http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2009/11/os-...ing-retail.html if you have questions let me know... Kevin Thanks for the info I followed the guide well atleast tried too but get stuck at a certain point. I was using the OEM snow leopard cd that came with my 27" i5 iMac could that be the problem why the TMX86 cd installation didn't work? I made the changes in my BIOS to boot to the Chamelon screen I took that cd out and put in the grey iMac installation cd typed in -x pressed enter a bunch of writing came on the screen gave some firewire error and then said it was waiting for device or something along those lines and that message just kept going. Also I have 3 hard drives in my computer both SATA one with windows 7 and the other one blank. After I first failed attempt at installing SL I tried to restarted my computer several times ever restoring BIOS defaults but I kept kept getting the NTDL missing error for windows. I want to be able to use both SL and Win 7 Cheers Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/201231-my-first-hackintosh-ga-p55-ud4p-i5-dual-boot/#findComment-1355471 Share on other sites

NoiseTracker
here is a screen shot hopefully this can help one of you to understand my problem hey all. I am a new poster to this forum (obviously) but a long time lurker. I just got my parts together for my new computer and I am running into the IDENTICAL errors that desirico is running into. If I learn anything else I will post it here. EDIT: you MUST put the OSX disc in FIRST then hit F5. I am watching it load right now for me. EDIT: I got the version up and running. but after I loaded all the motherboard specific files and repaired the permissions on my first boot it now will show it is booting and then reset. I am trying it from scratch again. desirico
This is what I did: 1) went into BIOS changed CDrom to 1st boot device 2) Still in BIOS changed SATA mode to ACPI 3) Saved Settings and booted with TonyMac cd 4)At the Chamelon boot screen I take the Tony CD out and replace it with a retail Snow Leopard Disc 5)Once the retail Snow Leopard disc is in I press F5 6)Snow Leopard disc shows up so I type "-x" (without the quotes) and press Enter 7) a bunch of screen flash for a few minutes showing files doing stuff but the end result is still "waiting for root device" Do I need to copy some other files? You mentioned you loaded you Motherboard specific files maybe that's what I'm missing any guidance on how I would do that. I have the Gigabyte GA-P55-UD4P board. Is there an image made that would work for my board? I'm willing to pay someone $50 if I can get this up and running Cheers, Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/201231-my-first-hackintosh-ga-p55-ud4p-i5-dual-boot/#findComment-1360417 Share on other sites
