FIX : placing my kext in my Extra folder would not work but i was able to get this to work using kext helper to install the airportaetheros.kext

So like many other people I went ahead and updated to 10.6.2 from 10.6.1 only to run into some issues.

I was getting a KP on boot. Easy fix, this was just my DMOS kext, i ditched that and was back in action. Like many others my wireless was also shot though. The card at hand is a netgear wpn311 that worked perfectly fine in 10.6.1.

I've done a bit of research and experimenting but i'm yet to be able to fix this. I'm going to provide some screenshots and info on what i've been doing to see if anyone can help or pick up from where i leave off.

Following many others footsteps, what i've done is tried editing my 10.6.2 io80211family.kext:

I start with finding my devices id by looking at the LSPCI

"168c:0013"

I then go into the io80211family.kext, and then go into the airportatheros.kext.

and then i edit the plist to list my device (note that i only have the device id of mine in here, i was having trouble simply adding it to the existing list as well)

then i save the plist to my desktop (because it won't allow me to save over the current plist), drag it to the desktop and replace it in the airportatheros.kext

once it has been replaced i then proceed to put the kext into my extas folder

and repair permissions with disk utility as well as empty kext cache

i then boot and no mention of wifi in the boot log and just an empty funnel in the menu bar
