mikewill57
If you can install Leo you can dual boot. iAtkos is a good distro with a decent set of customizations, so there should be something there for you. Check the wiki on what systems it's been successfully installed on, if you see yours (or one that's super similar) you should be okay. Main things that need to be compatible are the disk (or mobo or whatever) and the graphics card. You're rocking intel so there's something out there that'll work. If you don't find what you want on iAtkos check iPC or Ideneb or Leo4All (though I think the latest update of that is mine @ 10.5.4), one of them will have what you need. As for dual-booting, there are plenty of guides on that, it all depends on how you want it set-up. I posted yesterday in the official dual-boot thread the way that worked best for me, check it if you want or try one of the other various methods. Good luck. Willg89
Click here has full instructions for installing leopard and setting up dual booting, which was very helpful, though n.b. I used iAtkos v 1.0i. I had to do a bit of fixing once the install was done, in order to get my ethernet card/graphics card/sound to work properly, but these are easily found in this forum! mikewill57
I just meant that if OSX will install on your PC and your hard drive, then you should not have any problems having that and 7 on the same drive. You just have to figure out how to get OSX on your PC. Adz0rd
kk thanks and could i install it via a virtual machiene? also do u recomend anything else accept for iAkatos v7 such as iPc cause i want to get the best Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/200914-noob-in-need-of-help/#findComment-1351277 Share on other sites
Willg89
kk thanks and could i install it via a virtual machiene? also do u recomend anything else accept for iAkatos v7 such as iPc cause i want to get the best v7 is probably the best option than the one I used, because it installs Leopard version 10.5.7 rather than 10.5.1 which doesn't support some more recent software (e.g. Skype), and it's a total pain to upgrade from 10.5.1. Your best bet is to start off with the most recent version which will support everything! As for whether you should use a different installer, like iPC, I can't say as I've only used iAtkos. But I found iAtkos very successful! Also, I'm not sure what you mean by using a virtual machine, but probably the best option is to follow the guide exactly. Just print the guide off in advance/write it out ! Adz0rd
Hi guys got a huge problem after installing iAkatos v7 i started having majour problems: 1. could no longer boot into windows via Chameleon boot loader ("Missing BOOTMGR" tried using the windows 7 install disc but it cant detect my hard drive operating system even though in mac i can access all my files via the Finder) 2. problem with scrolling up and down seems like the writing is overlapping 3. mac doesnt shut down, when pressing restart or shut down etc it goes to a screen with a loading circle and either crashes and doesnt shut down or the circle goes on forever and doesnt shut down Specs: RAM - Corsair 4GB Kit (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 CL5 1.9V PROCESSOR - Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz 1333FSB Socket 775 L2 4MB cache OEM MOTHERBOARD - Gigabyte GA-EP41-UD3L iG41 Socket 775 8 channel audio ATX GRAPHICS CARD - PNY GTS250 512MB GDDR3 Dual DVI HDTV Out PhysX and Cuda ready PCI-E DRIVE - LiteOn 20x DVD±RW Dual Layer & Ram + Lightscribe IDE HARD DRIVE - Samsung HD502HI 500GB Hard Drive SATAII if u need any other information please ask Thanks Adz Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/200914-noob-in-need-of-help/#findComment-1353137 Share on other sites
bastisk8
1. could no longer boot into windows via Chameleon boot loader ("Missing BOOTMGR" tried using the windows 7 install disc but it cant detect my hard drive operating system even though in mac i can access all my files via the Finder) You can try setting the bootflag back to your windows partition with Gparted. After this you should be able to repair your windows bootmanager using the Windows DVD and the dvd recognizes the faulty bootmgr. When you are finished and able to boot into windows, set the bootflag back to your OSX Partition and you will be able too boot both windows and osx Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/200914-noob-in-need-of-help/#findComment-1353141 Share on other sites
Adz0rd
another problem that computer was the only one to have a burner drive and because of it i cant burn a dvd, any other way tahti can do it e.g LiveUSB Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/200914-noob-in-need-of-help/#findComment-1353160 Share on other sites
bastisk8
Gparted is also available as UBB version, see: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/liveusb.php Though, the usb version didn't boot on my machine, that's why i recommended the CD-Version. Please report your success when your dual boot works. It will help others with the same problem. Edit: You should actually even be able to burn the Gparted CD in OSX as you can already boot this Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/200914-noob-in-need-of-help/#findComment-1353161 Share on other sites
Adz0rd
what burn tool do i use on osx to burn it and i dont know how to burn a iso i normally use ImgBurn on windows btw have u got any tips on the other problems Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/200914-noob-in-need-of-help/#findComment-1353174 Share on other sites
bastisk8
Try Burn http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/Pages/English/home.html or the disk utility that comes with Leopard Problem 2 seems like Quartz extreme and Core Image aren't running yet. You`ll probably need a new kext for your graphics card. Not sure which one, NVInject seems to be a good choice in most cases, though. I recommend getting dual boot to work properly first as you'll need another OS to access OSX in case you screw something with a wrong kext... bastisk8
Hm...don't really understand what went wrong. If the bootflag is back on windows and the windows partition ist set active, the Install DVD should fix the windows bootloader and you should be able to boot into windows. Did you set the windows partition as active with Gparted? If you set the bootflag back to OSX after you fixed the windows bootloader, Chameleon is able to boot both OS Edit: Ok, this should be the proper workaround for you: Boot Gparted, go to your windows Partition and set ist active. Exit Gparted. Boot your Windows installation DVD and let the DVD repair the bootloader. Boot Windows once. Boot Gparted again and set your OSX partition as active. Exit Gparted. Boot your Harddrive, Chameleon should load up, both OS should be able to boot. bastisk8
How did you manage to repair windows now? Did you do it manually or automatically via dvd? Problem 1: To prevent automount you can use fstab. Go to disk util and view the UUID from this partition. then write to /etc/fstab like this UUID=XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX none ntfs ro,noauto Problem 6: You can change the first boot device easily with Lizard: http://darwinx86.org/software/darwinx86_software.html Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/200914-noob-in-need-of-help/#findComment-1353321 Share on other sites

bastisk8
Sorry, im on another PC right now and don't have access to OSX. Try using spotlight search for fstab and edit it accordingly.
