Hello!

I've installed SL 10.6.0 to my Dell Inspiron 6400 using Chameleon 2 on a USB and a retail disk copied to my HD.

As far as I can remember, at first it would give me a black screen. I had to move /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntel* into /backup, and only then it would work on VESA mode with 1024x768 (my display is 1280x800). I then installed some kexts and only then I got it to work.

Yesterday I've updated to 10.6.2 and I get the black screen again, but this time the kext doesn't work anymore. I've also tried using the original ones, but to no luck. I've got all the device-properties set in my boot.plist file in Chameleon, but it doesn't seem to have any affect.

Got any ideas?

Mind sharing your kexts and configuration?

Thank you!

P.S.

Just in case you don't know the well-known black screen problem - it's that the screen turns black but everything is still running (no KP). I can hear the sound and even shutdown my computer from the menus. But yeah, I need my screen... :o

I had the same problem on my Acer Aspire One, so I had to go back to 10.6.1.

Some help or guide will be apreciated.

Cheers,

Alex

Odd, obviously some people didn't had a single problem with the same card as ours.

How did you downgrade to 10.6.1?

the post is referring to 10.6.1, but it's also true and works for 10.6.2. you need the gma950 efi string in com.apple.boot.plist and you need the screen sleeper solution. all in that post.

Thank you, it works!

Attaching an external monitor didn't help, but I just temporarily moved my AppleIntel* kexts, and installed the screen sleep solution while in vesa mode. Then I moved them back to /System/Library/Extensions, and it worked!

It's so nice to have my display work again! :D

btw, I heard that 10.6.2 has 64bit support for the intel kexts. Ever tried it? I get some error about my fakesmc, but i don't think it's related...

yes, the gma950 should be 64bit in 10.6.2. however, when I boot into 64bit mode I get a black screen. none of the sleep solutions work. I think it's related to wrong entries in DSDT.aml or the efi grafics string needs to be modified. I am not really that interested in 64 bit mode though and haven't tried hard to find where the problem is.

sure netkas would know.

I have a Dell Latitude D420 and I can't seem to get this to work with an external monitor. On the laptop screen everything looks good but if I connect and external monitor it just shows a distorted image. I got my kexts using pacifist on the 10.6.2 update and I installed the screen sleeper with the proper EFI string. For expose I set up the right corner to put it to sleep (why is this part necessary?). Did I miss a step? Could someOne post the relevent GMA950 kexts from stock SL so I can try again?

Thanks

Nicholas
