oliver ramsey
sorry if this is in the wrong bit, but i thought i would post my build and what i did so people might find it easier to know what bits work, also i am a noob to it all so i will post it in simple terms, plus i will add i am from the uk as ive seen all different posts to say what kit people have but i have found that you cant always get the same bits in every country... Install with snow leopard 10.6 what i bought: Item: Pioneer 22x DVD±RW DL & RAM SATA Black Drive Item: Coolermaster Elite 330 Black Case With CM eXtreme Power 460W PSU Item: Western Digital 1TB Hard Drive SATAII 32MB Cache - OEM Caviar Green Item: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR iP45 Socket 775 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard Item: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 Socket 775 2.66GHz 1333FSB 6MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor Item: Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory Kit CL5 1.8v Item: Kingston Datatraveler 101 8GB USB Stick With Capless Swivel Design - Pink Item: PNY nVidia GeForce 9800 GT PCI-E 2.0 now i followed the guide on lifehacker, the only thing i found is they had a 2008 bios and with the new board i bought had a 2009 bios, only 1 screen was slightly different, as long as the LAN was enabled and you copy what they put all is ok. http://lifehacker.com/5360150/install-snow...acking-required after following that guide i was amazed how quick it installed, the next bit was a bit of a learning curve but... the first bit of software i installed was little snitch 2.2, i had a few probs but was guided by pdave54, basically once you have installed Little Snitch DO NOT REBOOT, download and install Kext utility, then just double click on it and it sorts any probs out with extensions, i also dropped the Little Snitch app onto the Kext Utility so i made sure it was fixed. (when i installed little snitch and restarted i couldnt boot properly, so i had to enter safe boot to fix it as i have described, so doing this saves you having to do a safe boot) I also think the bootloader hack magic thingy from lifehacker is a hybrid version of chameleon as all the flags are the same. Thats it really, ive not had to do anything else to get it working. The motherboard had a ethernet socket onboard and that worked straight away. Much thanks to everyone who has helped or provided the info for me to build this magic box!!
