maybe if you get a program that reads mac formatted disks from xp. then you could do the edits from word pad

How did you install, you could do it from the terminal of the boot disk (i could not help with that)

Installed from Leopard, actually i never got 10.6 booted, it hung on "waiting for root device", i believed editing the boot.pblist would sort it and i accidentaly edited the leopard boot.pblist and stuck with this.

You know of such an application? i tried hfsexplorer, wont get write permissions on the file-

macdrive?

There must be a way to change permissions on files (google)

I think macdrive does it just google

Here is a tip everyone should use. BACKUP before changing anything. If you have not got a spare partition or internal drive, get an external drive

re the snow leopard "waiting for root device" there are plenty of fixes on the forum, just gotta look ;-)

humz, i got macdrive and it has write permission, i removed the Kernel string and now i get an NTLDR error. geez.

Ill check the forum on waiting for root device, but seing i aint got a working osx install i think i will be out of luck for fixing it.

NTLDR error is a windows error

Try picking the boot device on start up

Keep at it you will get there

 i know man, 3rd day allready, this is so over my head. if i can just boot Snow i would forget about that Leo. reading like nuts, alot of ppl having "waiting for root device... ;) lol

edit: i got in to Leo, macdrive worked, editing the boot file worked. now for that waiting for root device dam

u good with it dave? i would guess it has to do with some driver, like a sata driver not being loaded, but i dont understand cause the system is actually booting and running so it must have access to my drive to start with...

well, i got snow working... i did the first thing i thought about and i got a PIIATA kext thinking the os dint load the sata side of the board, at first it crashed, i went back with -v, it ran the welcome intro, the register screen and after i hit enter, it crashed again, i went with -x -v on next boo, got me logged in, ran kext updates, shut down and booted straight in, now it looks good cept for no network, and system profiler reports invalid numbers for my cpu, fsb, ram and vram.
