Lord_Jeremy
Hey! I've got a Gateway FX7024 with some modifications. I've swapped the GeForce 8800 GT for a GeForce 9400 GT, swapped the IDE optical drive for a SATA, and replaced both hard drive with SATAs. It has a Core 2 Quad Q6600 and an Intel G33 chipset (that includes some {censored} integrated graphics which I don't use). The ethernet controller is an Intel 82562V-2 10/100 built-in. The system also has built-in FireWire which I'm pretty sure is Agere Systems FW322/2323. I'm not sure what my audio setup is but I know it works with VoodooHDA. Presently I've got a buttload of issues that can be read about in this thread. I'm wondering if anyone thinks these issues are caused by using a Core 2 Quad with a system that technically doesn't support it. My thought is maybe I'll have better luck with Snow Leopard. The things that are holding me back are as follows. I had issues getting the retail disk to boot following a couple different guides. Maybe someone can tell me the de-facto method for booting a retail disk or perhaps I should search for a stable distro? I'm also concerned that my graphics card won't work. I did manage to install Snow Leopard using a distro and I had no QE/CI, yet by just installing iAtkos v7 with NVinject and the EFI string the card worked. I tried installing NVinject into Snow Leopard, but after that I got KPs on boot. I've already managed to fill a 500 GB hard drive with lots of important files and I don't have anywhere to back them all up for a clean install. At this point if I went to SL I'd have to buy another drive I would think. I do have a 300 GB external that I could potentially install SL onto and then attempt to move files over gradually. I could also potentially burn a {censored}load of DVDs but I REALLY don't feel like doing that because I would have to burn literally 30 DVDs just to offload enough files so I could use the external to transfer the rest. I suppose I could just buy another hard drive, but if anyone can suggest anything better, I'm all ears. I think that just about covers it. Thanks in advance for any advice you guys care to give! Lord_Jeremy
I really hate to bump a forum post, but can no one answer my questions? If people are put off by how long my post is, let me sum up: -Can I expect better support for a Core 2 Quad Q6600 in Snow Leopard than Leopard? -Will I likely be able to get my GeForce 9400 GT working? I currently have it working in Leopard with just NVinject and an EFI string. -Will I be able to continue using VoodooHDA for audio? -What the best method for installing Snow Leopard? Right now I'm only familiar with using prepackaged distros... Thanks! pdave54
Don't know if snow will be more compatible, it is certainly faster. As to snow distro, there is one out there that does not work very well, not at all on some combos, another that says it will be released next month. These will probably not have drivers for your video, audio, network etc. Best bet is to search for post with the same processor and chipset as yours Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/198332-installation-advice/#findComment-1339293 Share on other sites
