mikewill57 Posted November 17, 2009 Share Posted November 17, 2009 So, I've tried updating my leo4all 10.5.4 using the netkas method, the "while sleep" (which I'm pretty sure are the same), straight 10.5.5 update dl'd from apple, straight 10.5.5 combo, 10.5.6 combo (using all methods), and I've not gotten it done. Always goes to the restart loop and it's making me nuts. System is in sig, any help/ideas are appreciated. Cheers! mikewill57 Posted November 18, 2009 Author Share Posted November 18, 2009 Ok, so I updated to 10.5.5 and now instead of rebooting loop it hangs at "diskarbitrationd[40]: unable to mount /dev/disk0s2 (&/dev/disk0s3) (status code 0x000000047). Those disks hold my windows 7 system reserve and windows 7 ntfs. Any tips?? I thought you needed to use updates specially crafted to not screw over the Voodoo kernel or somesuch. I've tried pretty much every trick out there, and the latest method is the only one that doesn't give me the reboot loop, it just hangs instead... I thought you needed to use updates specially crafted to not screw over the Voodoo kernel or somesuch. Not at all, it's perfectly possible to run vanilla system updates when using the Voodoo kernel. My P4 (see sig) was updated from retail 10.5.6 to 10.5.8 with an unmodified combo update with no problems. As recommended in the Voodoo Kernel manual, just rename the kernel so it doesn't get overwritten when running the update...and of course edit com.apple.Boot.plist so that it loads the renamed kernel. The Voodoo kernel disables AppleIntelCPUPowermanagement.kext and some other "dangerous" kexts automatically (unless you tell it not to) so you don't need a disabler.kext...unless you need one to disable other kexts (like AppleEFIRuntime.kext for example) which aren't covered by the Voodoo Kernel's kext blacklisting feature. I thought you had to use special updates to ensure that the custom kernel doesn't get overwritten, but yeah renaming the file would prevent that . I took another look at the OP and it's odd that it's failing at those mounting procedures. Do you have NTFS-3g or some related software installed? Or maybe it's hanging at the next step after those steps and it's not outputting the status lines? Is there a reason you haven't tried installing with a newer distro? Personally, I would recommend iAtkos v7, as it worked pretty much out of the box for me. As I recall it also has Voodoo 9.3.0 and 9.5.0. EDIT: I just checked my system.log and the only reference to diskarbitrationd was the following: Nov 18 07:16:47 Infested-Terran diskarbitrationd[70]: _CFGetHostUUIDString: unable to determine UUID for host. Error: 35 I'm not sure what's causing your hang issue, sorry . I had ntfs-3g, but nought I can do with it now that I can't boot back in. A guy at infinitemac has been helping me, will wait for his response before I restore back.
