I'm getting a kernel panic every so often with my MSI Wind U100 running 10.6.1. I really don't know what to do about fixing it. There's nothing, in particular, that I'm doing to cause it. It happens roughly once a day, depending on how much I'm using it.

The hardware is stock U100 except mine has 2GB RAM and also a real Airport Extreme card (taken from my Mac Pro). I do have a dualboot WinXP installation, but I'm not sure that's relevant here.

Aside from this panic, everything is working perfectly. When I do get a panic, it's the same message every time. Below is a screenshot, as well as a transcript of the message, and a list of my installed kexts. If I've forgotten to include other details, I apologize; just tell me what's missing and I'll update ASAP. Also, if this is the wrong forum, apologies in advance.

Anything you guys can suggest would strongly be appreciated!

Here's a text transcript of the panic message in screenshot (for search indexing, etc purposes; I can't promise I didn't make some typos with the hex)

OK, this only seems to happen during keyboard usage, particularly holding down arrow keys to scroll in Firefox. It's probably not Firefox or arrow key specific, it's probably just holding down any key for an extended period of time.

What driver can I blame this on? What do you suggest I try?

.... just google ""msi wind forum osx"""

That forum is down, and I have this same exact kernel panic on my Dell Mini 10v and no one has been able to help me. Although, I believe it has something to do with my WDC HDD, so im switching to a smaller 80GB seagate and seeing if it still kernel panics then, and I will report back if that fixes it or not. 092109_221200.jpg

Thanks for the extra info, scififan. Maybe we can get this figured out. i just spent all day replacing my kexts with new stuff I found at http://www.trick77.com/2009/11/08/snow-leo...-msi-wind-u100/ . Unfortunately I couldn't use the new VoodooPS2 kext, because the Syntelic touchpad support it has is... very bad. The driver I have now actually makes sidescrolling work (on a Syntelic even!) but the VoodooPS2 driver doesn't and also the sensitivity is way too high, and non-adjustable. I was hoping the new keyboard driver in Voodoo would fix my kernel panics but I wasn't able to use my separate PS2 mouse driver and the Voodoo PS2 keyboard driver at the same time.

But, I replaced a bunch of other stuff, so we'll see if it gets fixed.

Thanks for the tip, but I just tried it and had the exact same experience I had with the other set of VoodooPS2 I tried. Specifically:

(1) super sensitive;

(2) VoodooPS2 prefpane says it can't find the device, leaving no way to change super-sensitivity

(3) No side scroll

These Sentelic touchpads really suck, I may seek out a Synaptics replacement.

  • 1 year later...

I have this exact same KP.. See here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=243204

I believe this is related to the applePS2nub.kext.. Its keyboard specific. I have switched to voodoops2 also and still have the panic. The voodooPS2 kext is only for mice/touchpads I believe ApplePS2nub is still used.. Please see my topic this KP has been since 10.6 and even apple users have it.
