Just updated with no problem to 10.6.2.

Specs:

Processor: AMD Athlon X2 BE-2300

Motherboard ASUS M2A-VM

Sound: PCI Cmedia CMI8738

Video: nVidia GeForce 7300GT 512Mb

don't update from "software update"..instead download the update in .dmg format from apple and when it finishes don't restart before you copy your kernel for AMD again.

Hope this info helps for amd users...

or instead you can rename your kernel to mach_kernel_amd and set your bootloader to use it in com.apple.boot.plist. That way you won't have to think about kernels updates anymore )

yes... i don't know why i don't use this method... it is possible that software update to replace your com.apple.boot.plist??? if not i will do this :)

If you use Chameleon (or whatever) + /Extras folder, with com.apple.boot.plist in /Extras, then no, unless Apple decides to make an update do an "rm -rf /Extras" sometime... =-P

Back it up, but you should have no issue.

hi skero666

it's so good 2 see ur running it on a m2a-vm :)

i've successfully installed 10.6.2 too. Almost everything works, excerpt for the audio (few other things also like cputhrottle, sleep, shutdown/restart problems but they dont annoy me as much) :D i've tried patched applehda with no luck, voodoohda either, it gave me crackle noises and only when i drag a windows or move the mouse around the dock does it feels a bit better, but still unusable :D

i see from ur signature that u have sound working with alc883. so could u plz help me with this? :D

ah, btw, i'm using modbin's kernel and onboard soundcard. does that help ?

Hi! I saw that you have the same motherboard that I have, ASUS M2a-VM. But I have the onboard graphic card, Ati Radeon X1250. Can you tell me what guide did you follow to install Snow Leopard ?

Thanks!

I have a successful Snow leopard 10.6.4 install on Asus M2A-VM HDMI.

It was extremely difficult however.

I first installed iAtkos v7 (10.5.7) install. make sure to set SAtA controller to AHCI. I enabled SMART monitoring, but i am not sure if thats required. I use http://www.psystar.com/opensource/r1000 for the ethernet driver, or in iAtkos make sure you select Realtek, and i checked all the drivers for SATA/IDE. Consult this list of drivers upon install for iAtkos v7 release : http://c.thewarezscene.org/i/4246/iATKOS+v...+megaupload.png.

I also installed with the 9.7 voodoo kernel, left defaults on. I have an Nvidia geforce 8600 GT so I used NVenabler driver which works flawlessly. I'm not sure for ATI, use ATI HD im guessing, but i did not use the onboard driver. try installing with the Realtek drivers also for ethernet support, otherwise use the above kext upon install. use Kext helper v7 to install kexts, thats what i did. if you get the "still waiting for root device" error, make sure you have the HD which you have the install on, set to boot first in Hard Disk priority in the bios.

So i used that, and followed this guide to upgrade to 10.5.8

http://www.insanelymac.com/2009/08/update-...osh-osx86-1058/

Then i followed this guide to install snow leopard

http://www.taranfx.com/install-snow-leopard-on-amd

It was extremely tough to get it to install, i had to install snow leopard on a spare hard drive. but this spare hard drive was only 20 gigs, so i booted into snow leopard on it, and used superduper to copy the hard drive contents to the original hard drive, and thus had snow leopard 10.6.0 on my original HD.

to upgrade to 10.6.4 i downloaded the combo update from apple

http://support.apple.com/downloads/DL1048/...Combo10.6.4.dmg

then i downloaded the 10.6.4 kernel

http://www.kexts.com/view/415-legacy_kerne..._intel-amd.html

install the combo update, but DO NOT RESTART! install the 10.6.4 kernel, THEN reboot.

I don't have Restart/Sleep working, but my Snow leopard install is working awesomely otherwise.

I now dualboot Windows 7 and Snow leopard.

try this, someone reports success with an X1270, with some modification, I think it's feasible for X1250 too. sr I dont have the time to try this now :|

That's roughly what i did too but ur complicating the matters too much ~.~'

Leopard is just the stepping stone that doesnt need much care anyway. U can leave it with only minimum driver support. And why don't you install Leopard on the spare HDD and use that to install Snow on ur main drive? It fixes the redundant partition created by Leopard too :D

btw, ethernet works OOB so u dont need R1000.kext even in Leopard :P

attached is my Extra folder, sleepEnabler for 10.6.4 works perfectly and I have Sleep/Restart/Shutdown, haven't tried deep sleep however. Included is also my dsdt.aml and dsdt.dsl for easy manual patch. fixed RTC, and stuffs like that. i've also tried injecting HDEF but AppleHDA refuses to work no matter how hard i try :D (so i commented out the HDEF block and leave AZAL as is)

u should remove Extra/VoodooPS2Controller.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ Mouse and Touchpad.kext if you dont have 'em for remove VoodooPS2 together with AppleACPIPS2Nub if you have USB mouse and keyboard

sound works pretty well with VoodooHDA 0.2.6.2 but beware, no other versions will work. They'll give you crazy crackling noise that for heaven's sake will make you wanna go to Hell :fiery:

CPU throttling is absent too, though it's possible with VoodooPState. But the crackling noise will be back everytime there's a Pstate transition. i'm running at full CPU speed, which is very bad IMHO.

lewtds_Extra.zip

i am trying to put snow leopard on my dads computer. he has a asus m2a-vm MB.

anyways, the only problem is the ide cd drive. is there any way to get it working? the hard drive is sata

the rest of the build is great.
