silversoul
Hello All. I am new to Insanelymac and the OSx86 project. I have searched the forums and google for 4 days straight to try and solve my problem and no luck. I figured i would ask you guys for help, so thanksin advance for any help:P SPECS Intel Pentium D 950 (SSE2 SSE3) Asus P5ND2-SLI Deluxe (nForce 4 SLI chipset) -using onboard audio and LAN GeForce 6600 (PCI-E) 2GB RAM (2x 1GB in Dual Channel) WD 120GB IDE HDD (Primary Channel, Slave) IDE DVD-+RW (Primary Channel, Master) 4x Seagate 500GB SATA (NO RAID, Removed for the install) iMON VFD and Remote HDTV WONDER Netgear WiFi (Atheros chipset, used for linux) I have downloaded, burnt onto DVD-R and tried iPC PPF5 Final, Kalyway 10.5.6 and iAtkos v7. I am downloading iDeneb and JaS distros as well. I keep getting still waiting for root device. can someone please help? ill do anything, even repeat steps i have aready tried. I tried switch hdd with dvd and changing jumper config, i disabled second core of CPU in BIOS, disabled Hyperthreading, disabled firewire, serial, parallel, SATA controllers. i tried using the boot args -x -f -s idlehalt=0 and depending on the combination of these args i got kernel panics. I have read of people using my mobo and succesfully getting iDeneb, uphuk(cant find anymore) and kalyway 10.5.6 to work which is why im stumped as to why i cant get mine to work. EDIT: i dont need the hdtv wonder or vfd or sata to work in os x but its there for win/linux Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/197271-mac-os-x-install-wont-start/ Share on other sites

silversoul
Try disconnecting one of the hard drives.. i had the same type of issue except I had 4 gb ram.. i took out a stick of ram and removed the hard drive that i wasn't installing to.. then my install worked.. now my install won't boot past apple logo though.. hmm the only drives i have connected are the ide drives. sata drives arent connected. i tried to install onto a sata (connected alone and tried all available sata headers on board) and ide (alone tried different cable and jumper configds) to no avail. i am going to try to inject the nforce kexts written by medevil in one of these old posts here. ill keep everyone updated. god damn this bs... sorry to hear about ur misfortune, boot with the flag -v and take a snapshot of what u see. i have been reading so much about this lately that im sure i could at least point in the right direction lol. thanks for ur reply. any other ideas>? swanniebroo
hey, Okay, Sometimes, macosx won't boot from/with an IDE Drive. If at all possible, install to one of your many SATA's. For me, once I'm actually in Mac OS X, my IDE drive doesn't even show up. I have a whole bunch of SATA's and am currently dual-booting Mac OS X iPC 10.5.6 PFFF5, and Windows XP. Post back if this works. If not, try -v and post what the last string is. Thanks, swanniebroo- Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/197271-mac-os-x-install-wont-start/#findComment-1332539 Share on other sites

silversoul
My thanks go out to aicneneb and pdave54. you guys got my install running. I imged a USB 8gb Flash drive with iATKOS v7 using a Burned DVD, Disk Utility on a Mac at school, i used osx86tools to install PC_EFI v8 and chameleon 1.01 installer for the bootloader. Install still doesn't see my IDE HDD, but it got passed the still waiting for root device. The SATA worked this time and i did the install. Completed the install and rebooted, chose to boot hdd in chameleon v2 with option -v, saw it loading kexts and then where usually mac os is loading in verbose the screen went black. i didnt see anything from mac os x in verbose. i dont see any hdd activity. nothing just black. any ideas? CsAbU
Hey guys, I also need some help! I have: - iDeneb 1.5.1 (and 1.4, on different DVD-R discs) - Gigabyte GA-P35-S3 + Core2 Duo + 2GB RAM - SAMSUNG HD161HJ (149 GB) SATA HDD - Toshiba/Samsung TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S183A SATA DVD I tried the HDD unpartitioned, partitioned without file system, and with FAT32. I also tried different AHCI settings in the BIOS setup. The installer stops with I/O error, when trying to reach disk0s2 or disk1s2 (this part is after writing some ethernet addresses in hexa). No other drives were connected (USB, IDE, SATA...). Any ideas? Thanks :-) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/197271-mac-os-x-install-wont-start/#findComment-1340435 Share on other sites
silversoul
check the md5 checksum of your iso make sure its correct and if u must burn, burn at the slowest speed possible and click verify cd after so that whatever burning program u use double checks the burned data. see if u can make a bootable USB flash drive or usb hard drive. it seems to me that it boots flawlessly off of USB so try that and post back. from what i see (i could be wrong so please someone correct me if i am) it has trouble finding\reading your cd. so if you have access to a mac (make sure that u have administrative rights) take your verified dvd (restoring from an iso didnt work for me) and an 8 gb flash drive or hdd, go into disk utility, format the partition/flash drive as mac os journaled, click options and select MBR. then go to restore and drag the DVD disc image into the source bar and ur usb into the destination bar. once thats done use osx86 tools (google) and click install efi/run fdisk. then in the new window select ur usb and select pc_efi v8 and click install, and there you go. you should have a working bootable usb install. that should get you to the installer.
