lkelly2006
I have a, what it seems, very simple question: What is the difference or pro/con of using /System/Extra/Extensions vs /System/Library/Extensions folder to put in kexts? Some instructions will state one vs the other but no reason to why? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/197094-extensions-folder/ Share on other sites

-CEOS-
What is the difference or pro/con of using /System/Extra/Extensions vs /System/Library/Extensions folder to put in kexts? you need less letters to write "Extra" XD for real I think you don´t need to repair/set permissions and rebuild extension cache if you put the kexts in /System/Extra/Extensions. cause OSX is based on UNIX, there is lots of permission stuff. e.g. it needs permissions to load the kexts out of /System/Library/Extensions. chameleon is not based on UNIX. it has nothing like permissions. it just somehow inject the kexts out of /System/Extra/Extensions in OSX bootloader i prefere to use the Extra/Extension folder, caus i install chameleon onto a usb drive. so i can have a untouched osx installation which is even able to boot in a real mac sorry for my bad english..... hope you can understan a bit Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/197094-extensions-folder/#findComment-1327792 Share on other sites
