10.6.2 update killed my USB ethernet adapter

Here's my second problem after installing the 10.6.2 update. (The first problem being 'sleepenabler.kext' which caused a kernel panic during boot up. Luckily netkas' updated 'sleepenabler.kext' fixed that. )

 

I've been using a TU2-ET100 TRENDnet USB to 10/100Mbps Adapter and it worked great on 10.6/10.6.1.

 

Networking stopped working after updating to 10.6.2, it still shows up in the system profiler as 'AX88772' and in system preferences/network it shows "USB Ethernet Not Connected".

 

I found this while searching google for a fix...

 

"The MacOS update seems to contain an updated driver for USB ethernet:

 

Mac OSX 10.6.1: com.apple.driver.AppleUSBEthernet version 2.0.9

Mac OSX 10.6.2: com.apple.driver.AppleUSBEthernet version 2.1.0"

Not a solution I too have this bug with a Kensington Universal notebook docking station:

This has worked perfectly from 10.5 through to 10.6.1

 

This is odd as both our devices uses the ASIX AX88772 in common with Apple's own USB Ethernet adapter:

A call to Apple's Support Line was pointless, however I have used the feedback mechanism to raise the issue:

Which works for me. I have done some (not exhaustive) testing and it seems to work well enough.

 

Make sure you take note of the uninstallation instructions that appear when you run the package.

 

I'll post any problems I experience back here, but otherwise I will send those guys some cash!

I'm a bit late to the party, here, but this thread was very valuable to me. I tried using a Trendnet TU2-ET100 USB-to-Ethernet adapter with my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.4, and it wouldn't even recognize it. Following the tip in this thread, I downloaded and installed the Sustainable Software driver for the AX88772 chipset and Snow Leopard and it works like a charm.
