Hey all!

Yes, I am new here, but I'm not new to modding, and I recently just bought a G5 case off of eBay for about $100.

Now I've read that the G5 case is the easiest to get full sized ATX board into, so thats why I got it, but next in my brainstorming was figuring out how to modify the back panel for this new mobo. Well I was searching and I found a site called Mountain Mods. They make a back panel that looks like it could fit, my only concern is that it will interfere with the 2 fan openings in the back.

That is the piece I am looking at and was wondering if anyone has had luck with this part or parts like these.

This is what the piece looks like if your wondering.

Cheers.

I'm getting ready to do the same thing actually, but I'm planning on using this:

(The version with the 2 80mm fans in the rear)

This part was suggested to me by aquamac, who has made many of these types of machines. You can see his work here to get an idea for how nice they turn out:

I haven't gotten around to ordering it yet since I've been busy with school and all, but I plan on doing it soon.

I was looking at that one myself, but the red flag came up when I thought about the release latch for the side. If you put that back panel on, won't it cover up the release latch? And also, you'd have to cut away the whole right side of the backing to get both that back panel and adjacent motherboard tray in... not very seemless if you ask me.

I went to Aquamacs site hoping to find an example of those parts being used... all I found as far as back paneling goes is the same one he uses on all of his (shown below):

Yeah, according to aquamac the backplate he uses is no longer available, so he turned me on to the one I linked above claiming it will work. I haven't ordered it yet, but I trust him if he says it works. I'll let you know more details when I get it in.

Just stumbled across this thread! It is true, I have not actually tried this particular backplate - the aluminium surround may need slight trimming around the latch - not difficult, in fact the cooler-master back plate I used, also needed 4 tabs removing to allow the latch to be free.

Thats what I was concerened with... as I am looking for a pretty clean look, I don't trust myself with my crappy dremel and if I did some trimming, I'd end up making it look terrible...
