fowie
I've got everything working using iAtkos v7. Intel GMA 950 graphics. Using my LCD TV I can get any refresh rate I want (almost) with the boot option "Graphics Mode"="WxHxD", but if I try that on the Apple Studio 17" LCD display (supported res: 1024x768 @ 60Hz, 1280x1024 # 60Hz) I get nothing but black screen. The only res it works at it 1024x768. ANY ideas how I can get the studio display to work at it's higher resolution? Yes, I've tried "Graphics Mode"="1280x1024x32@60", no joy, same with any other color depth. When I try adding the refresh rate onto the line when plugged into my LCD TV, the whole computer just reboots. With the studio display it just goes black like the resolution is unsupported. vilpostus
Boot flags are only valid during a boot process. They no longer work, then a system is booted. Do you have a proper VGA driver installed? Do you have a proper VGA driver installed? I believe so, I'm using the vanilla AppleIntelGMA950 kexts, and my video card ID is in the Info.plist. kextstat shows the GMA kext loaded, how can I tell if it's actually being used? SticMAC™
I've seen this before on my own TV and my Acer Aspire ONE! Connect everything as normal, go to System Preferences/Displays and click Detect Displays, if the Gather Windows button appears, then it sees the other monitor.(a good sign) Now, click on it and you might find that the current setting for your Studio display is incorrect, change it on the settings to higher or lower, or the one it is supposed to be, 9/10 times it should activate the Screen and work from there on. If it doesn't SORRY guys, nothing ventured nothing gained! I guess you should follow the SticMAC™'s advice first of all. fowie
Thanks, I'll check system profiler. When I try to go to "About this Mac" my desktop goes black and re-starts with no windows open, so i could never find any information through that. As for gather windows, I don't get that option, even with two monitors plugged in. I have an idea that maybe the driver gets installed for the VGA portion of the video card, but not the HDMI portion, because in hardware lists my graphics adapter shows up with three unique vendor IDs, but I don't know how to specify which device the driver should work with. I'll let you know tonight what i find out from system profiler. fowie
System Profiler: Intel GMA 950: Chipset Model: GMA 950 Type: Display Bus: Built-In VRAM (Total): 64 MB of Shared System Memory Vendor: Intel (0x8086) Device ID: 0x27a2 Revision ID: 0x0003 Displays: Display Connector: Status: No Display Connected Display: Resolution: 1280 x 1024 @ 75 Hz Depth: 32-Bit Color Core Image: Hardware Accelerated Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz Extreme: Supported I'm typing this on the mac. I plugged in my CRT and I get plenty of resolutions to choose from. I picked 1280x1024 60Hz (the resolution the Apple Studio needs--I think). This display works fine. I rebooted, unplugged the CRT and left the Apple Studio plugged in, it boots up, and I get a solid blue screen, boot never finishes. How do I get past that? fowie
More reading and more reading. I tried installing the GMA kexts from the Leopard Graphics Update from Apple. I've also tried re-patching the DSDT with Patch v2. If I boot with both monitors plugged in (CRT on VGA and Apple Studio on HDMI/DVI) boot up starts on the Apple Studio, I get the gray loading screen, then the blue screen (filling the full screen like it should) and then it goes black, and display moves over to the CRT. I get plenty of resolution options for the CRT, but no "Gather Windows" option or any other notion to make me think that it knows there's another display except for the "Detect Displays" button being enabled (it doesn't do anything when I click it). What's my next step? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/195971-studio-display-lcd-resolutions/#findComment-1321499 Share on other sites
vilpostus
As for the card itself, looks like it works properly, at least it has a correct driver installed. Try connecting Apple Studio via D-SUB to DVI-D connector. I guess, somehow one need to change the default output. I guess you can try "playing" with NVCAP values for HDMI. NVCAP is somehow responsible for display connections. Check this topic http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=169708 Though it is about NVidia cards... But I guess it is applicable to any VGA card.
