SquirrelsOfTomorrow
Hi InsanelyMac! I've been researching about getting mac on non-apple hardware for about 3 months now since my iMac logic board died and figured I could spend a lot less money and get a much more powerful computer if i custom did it. Done. I do a lot of audio recording/editing though, and use Logic Studio, so having Mac OS installed is important lol. Here are my specs: ASUS M4A785TD-M MoBo 3.2Ghz AMD Phenom II X4 955 4GB DDR3 RAM NVIDIA GeForce 9800GTX+ SATA DVD-ROM 1TB SATA HDD (dual booting kubuntu linux and windows 7 beta) (if you need anything else let me know, but i think those are the important things) Like I said, I've been researching for a while. And i came to the conclusion that iPC PPF5 10.5.6 was the easiest/simplest way to install osx86 and has the highest driver support from what I've seen. The driver for my card is in the support hardware list, and i've seen in these forums people who have had iPC work on their AMD Phenom II's. So i didn't think I'd need to post my own problem.... til now.. Here's my issue: I started off with iPC X-DL 10.5.6... but when I boot to DVD, I was getting an error of "cannot find boot.Slist" (note slist, not plist). So I booted with -v and shortly after displaying nothing more than 2 lines of "loading HFS+ files..." it rebooted, and started all over. I then downloaded the non-DL version of iPC PPF5 10.5.6 universal Final, burned to DVD, and I haven't seen the original error...yet.. but it still will not boot. if I just hit ''any key'' it says ''starting darwin'' then reboots. If i hit F8 and boot with -v tag, it shows 2 lines of ''loading hfs+ files...'' then shows two lines of ''.../EXTENSION.kext'' then reboots. same if i try -v cpus=1 (which i saw fixed some folks). So I am at a loss. One last issue I was wondering about with this problem. Presently I do not yet have the hdd i wish to install mac inside the computer yet. It is a 160GB sata drive, I just need another sata cable i plan on buying today to install it in the tower. but i figured the dvd should still at least boot... unless it needs to be able to read an HFS+ drive before it'll boot all the way up? idk.. i'm down for ANY help at this point... thank you everyone! - John Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/195819-from-ipc-to-iatkos-update-stuck-on-apple-logo-before-install-menu/ Share on other sites
vilpostus
Try iAtkos v4. It has good nForce chipsets support. SquirrelsOfTomorrow
hmm, I'm a bit confused. I will certainly take your advice and look into iAtkos, but about the chipsets... the chipset for my MoBo is AMD 785G, and you were talking about iAtkos specifically having support for nvidia chipsets. Are you referring to my gpu, or the mobo? Whenever i boot into the DVD kernel I get a line saying something about NVIDIA but I wasn't sure what it meant. its the AMD 785G chipset made by nvidia or something? vilpostus
MBs for Intel CPUS usually are based on Intel chipsets (not always though). MBs for AMD CPUs are usulay (not always though) are based on nForce chipsets. So my first reaction on seeing AMD CPU in the specs was: "I see, AMD means nForce". Sorry, me bad! Didn't meant to confuse you You are right, it's my mistake, your MB has nothing to do with nForce. SquirrelsOfTomorrow
haha, no problem. I appreciate the apology lol. So I'm now thinking that if my gpu is listed under support, and i've found ppl successfully install osx86 on a phenom II cpu... and all my stuff is sata... at this point I guess its my MoBo chipset that's interrupting the install... So i spent all that time making sure i had good hardware and its my MoBo that's wrong lol.. So i'm looking into osx86 distro's that specifically support AMD chipset 785G/SB700... Any suggestions? (and hopefully support for my other hardware as well, or a means to get support). SquirrelsOfTomorrow
Thank you so much dude! Just so I don't seem completely useless to my own self, I did manage to previously find two of those posts you linked in your reply.. but The rest of the links are perfect too. And just when I was about to ask "sweet, so how do I insert .kexts into my DVD's??" you then provided that tutorial as the last link as well. haha. I appreciate the support man. I won't mark the thread solved quite yet until I make sure that I can successfully install osx86 in some distro, but I'll post my progress as well Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/195819-from-ipc-to-iatkos-update-stuck-on-apple-logo-before-install-menu/#findComment-1320573 Share on other sites
SquirrelsOfTomorrow
well, like I said, those links really did help me out..but... here's an update, and there's still a problem: I was able to mod the iPC DVD to put in my SB700 kext, but it still was on a reboot loop and could never get to the apple logo, much less the install menu. So i downloaded iAtkos v7. However, when I finally had it downloaded and onto DVD, i booted from it and it still did the same thing the iPC DVD did: reboot w/o an apple logo. Tried the same normal things (-v, cpus=1, etc). Then I saw somewhere someone said to try busratio=20?? So, i tried "busratio=20 cpus=1," and.. i got an apple logo!! but no circular loading icon... So i tried it again (did NOT change anything, except swapped the order i typed it to "cpus=1 busratio=20") and this time i got the apple logo with a circular loading icon, and within a few minutes I was in the installer for iAtkos!! Then... I got to the "select location" screen for where I wanted to install..and I could not see my sata hdd's.. I've been looking places and can't seem to find the answer. So, I shutdown my computer to call it a night. and now tonight when I tried booting into it again i changed my BIOS settings to hdd config: AHCI (b/c I didn't notice i had it set to IDE), and i got the apple logo but no loading icon and no install screen? That doesn't make sense to me. Just for the heck of it, I changed it back to IDE and still the same thing, no install screen, just hangs at apple logo w/o loading icon. please help anyone? I'm so confused why using the same method would work one minute and not the next??
