tamorgen
Hello all, I spent much of the past 24 hours trying to get my Dell Inspiron 1720 up and running. I'm close. I used a Dell Preboot image for Snow Leopard along with the SL DVD. I can get it up, I got the Broadcom Ethernet working (not the wireless), the sound working, and I even got it updated to 10.6.1 SL. I'm using Chameleon BL verson 2.3 build 658. I update the boot file to a file in a boot_v10.5.zip file. My problem now is I'm trying to solve a problem regarding the shutdown / restart issue that seems to plague the hackintosh community. There is a Boot-132 image that has instructions on how to fix it. I've tried it, and inevitably I go into the "You must restart your computer" in four languages screen, and I end up having to reinstall. I'm sure there is a way around reinstalling but I just don't know enough about the kernel panic codes to do anything about it. Speaking of errors, occassionaly when I'm trying to work on my install, I get the following: "_CFGetHostUUIDString: Unable to determine UUID for host. Error: 35" Yes, I have used the search function, but I haven't come up with anything that works. I saw something about a networking.plist where you need to change one of the values to true from false, and all that did was cause my laptop to reboot in a kernel panic. Any advice on how I can proceed? Oczo
I'm not sure what the issue is, but I am having the same kernel panic, although I am running Leopard 10.5.7 at the moment. By any chance, are you noticing anything unusual running kextstat in Terminal? Ian T
tamorgen, To resolve UUID Error 35, you need to make use of PlatformUUID.kext and either generate a generic UUID (uuidgen whilst in Terminal) or copy the UUID from the boot volume of your SL install (open up Disk Utilty and click on your SL volume name and then click Info and copy the "Universal Unique Identifier" string into PlatformUUID.kext/Contents/Info.plist) You can find PlatformUUID.kext on insanelymac, or via google (hint Stell's Blog)....
