meatfork
I followed d00m42's guide and was finally able to get my machine to boot Snow Leopard, but now I'm getting graphical corruption like crazy. I've tried installing ATY_init, Natit, EVOenabler, and nothing has worked so far.. unless I have a bad combination of things installed. I've used PC EFI 10.5 with legacyATI4800.kext, and still no luck. Has anyone had a similar experience and resolved it? Perhaps I should wipe my SL install and start fresh. meatfork
Well, I figured out for some reason my bootloader is ignoring my boot.plist. Manually typing "GraphicsEnabler"="y" at boot with the PC EFI 10.5 works to get me in to arch=i386. When trying to boot into 64 bit mode, it hangs with a blue screen. Radeon 4870 on a EP45-UD3R. Anyone? Another quick update - Letting it sit for quite sometime on the blue screen, it did eventually pop up into the OS. Now my keyboard isn't working (PS2 keyboard) and I'm not getting sound.. I'm using the VoodooPS2Controller.kext maybe its not 64 bit? meatfork
Well, I finally got everything working the way I want. Turns out I needed the ALC889a.kext. The main issue here, and maybe n00bs can learn from me here, but I used multiple partitions. First I split my hard drive into 3 partitions (more on why later..) and then installed Leopard one one of them. After that, I installed Snow Leopard on the second partition, and fiddled with all the kexts and DSDT {censored} I could. After hours of struggling with ATI video drivers and kexts, I realized that all along, it was not reading my boot.plist, and that's because it was looking for it on the first partition with Leopard. I moved the boot.plist there. I had installed PC EFI 10.5 hoping it would help my ATI woes, and with a readable boot.plist, it finally saw "GraphicsEnabler=y" in my boot.plist. Problems solved. I also added the VoodooPS2Controller.kext that was compiled for 64 bit, since I have a PS/2 keyboard. After all of this, I realized everything was still defaulting to my Leopard drive, even though I'm now all Snow Leopard'ed out. I erased the Leopard partition completely and then reinstalled Snow Leopard on there. I repeated my bootloader steps (installed Chameleon RC3, then moved the PC EFI 10.5 boot file over to the new install partition), then installed my kexts. Fixed any lines needing fixing in the boot.plist and smbios.plist files, and rebooted. Without having to press any keys or enter any lines, loaded right up into Snow Leopard, sound ethernet and all. If anyone has a similar setup and is having issues, I may be able to help. I created an installer package for my snowleopard setup, but its about 110 megs. His stuff worked perfectly for me, except that I didn't have an NVidia card so I had to mess around with that.. since you do, I'm sure it'd be better. I also learned if you install to multiple partitions on a single drive, you have to play around a bit with what install is on what partition in order to get the right boot.plist file read. I noticed over night that sleep is not working. The machine sleeps, but upon waking up, the display will turn on for about a second before going back into power-save mode, but my machine is now up and running. Anyone have any similar issues? I modified my DSDT as instructed in d00m42's guide, so I'm not quite sure where else to go with this. I'll post any solution I come up with if all remains quite in this thread... still... meatfork
I found a VoodooPS2Controller.kext on the boards somewhere that was 64 bit, and I put that one in E/E. As far as Chamaeleon, I used the installer for it from digital_dreamers guide, and then dropped the PC EFI 10.5 boot file in my root. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...=185097&hl= I used his script mainly for copying kexts and the RC3. Do not use his DSDT (of course), and remove any of his audio stuff to replace with your own. I kind of used a bit of d00m's guide and digital_dreamer's script in order to get everything reliably on my Snow Leopard partition.
