Hey. I installed iAtkos v7 a couple weeks ago on my Gateway FX 7024. It has a Core 2 Quad Q6600 so I used the vanilla kernel. It also has an nVidia GeForce 9400 GT by Sparkle so based on the suggestion of someone else here I only selected nvinject and the proper EFI string in terms of video stuff. Other than that I didn't really know much about the hardware in the machine so I selected whatever seemed appropriate. But that does include selecting like more than one type of audio and ethernet driver. Anyway, the system has been running really well, the only thing besides my current problem is it won't go to sleep. Everything else works beautifully. In regard to my boot up problem, every so often the machine will hang on the Apple logo before the spinning gear appears. It hangs at this screen sometimes forever, but sometimes it will then display the prohibitory sign and and then finish booting. When this happens, my USB devices don't receive power (I know this because my optical mouse doesn't turn on and the keyboard doesn't do anything) but it *appears* that the ethernet still works as well as sound (I tested this by setting some programs to launch at login). Sometimes I can fix this issue by just restarting the computer, but other times I have to force rebuild the kext cache. Anyone have any idea what's going on? It's fixed pretty easily, but it's annoying and I'm worried that something might eventually break.

Eh... I've already spent a long time installing software and getting things just the way I want them. Is there a way I can just take out kexts that I probably don't need? I figure if I open up the install disk with Pacifist I can take a look at what's installed as part of each driver set.

EDIT:

I'm pretty sure I also have some issue with my ethernet drivers, as it seems that occasionally the computer will lose it's network connection and then shortly afterwards hang indefinitely, upon which I force restart it and it behaves normally. Is this a known issue with any combination of network drivers or hardware?

Alright, so I removed most the kexts installed with iAtkos except the ones that apply to my hardware. Unfortunately, it seems the network connection loss and system hang is happening more frequently now, perhaps after an hour of the machine being on. I really really don't want to reinstall, considering how much other {censored} I would have to reinstall. I haven't installed the 10.5.8 update yet, but I was about to try that. Can anyone think of anything else I could do to resolve this?
