I'm planning to go with the i7 (920) (and other hardware which according to other users already appears to be compatible — and I did check. I have the right processor socket on the EVGA x58-series motherboard.

What I was wondering is if the instructions to install Snow Leopard (http://lifehacker.com/5351485/how-to-build-a-hackintosh-with-snow-leopard-start-to-finish) found there work for the i7.

Also I was wondering if the 7300GT from my Mac Pro works so I can install the kexts for the Radeon 3870 x2 that I plan to use in the Hackintosh—or is there a better way to install them?

Thanks in advance.

much of what is in that guide will be the same on an i7, but really you should use a guide specific to an x58 i7 system, ideally one for your specific mobo or lineup.

Don't bother with the 7300GT, even without kexts the radeon should work enough for install at 1024x768 res.

Plus, from what i've read recently several bootloaders now have options for graphics card support in the loader itself (havent tried myself, still runnin 6month old P45-based leopard install)

Thanks for the reply. Do you have any ideas as to where I could find some good guides for the i7? I think this looks good: http://www.hackint0sh.org/f181/74058.htm

That's good—so I can get to my desktop without the kexts and install them from there? Do you know if any of my other hardware requires special kexts, or will it work from the start?

I've found better tutorials now. Looks like they fit all my hardware exactly except the video card, but I already have a kext patcher for that.

I keep hearing about a "Boot-132" CD. What is this for, and how to I find it and use it (the link was dead everywhere I found.) I thought I could boot off a bootable USB hard drive that's been loaded with a 'boot' file Airwalk's 'Extra' folder.

And one last thing: should I or should I not install Windows first? (The final plan is to dual boot Snow Leopard and Windows 7 — on separate hard drives, of course.)
