Hey. So I have an AMD PC, and I'm just wondering if there is support for all of my hardware.

I don't have the graphics card yet. Nor a SATA DVD drive.

I want to install 10.6.X (Snow Leopard).

AMD Phenom II X3 720 2.8GHz

AMD 790GX Chipset

AMD SB750 Southbridge

4GB PNY DDR3 1333 RAM (Upgrading to 8GB)

BFG Tech NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 (X16)

VIA VT1708S 8 Channel Audio

And of course a SATA HDD

I've seen videos of people running OS X fine with similar hardware, I just want to make sure, ya'know?

Are there any Snow Leopard for AMD distro's out yet? (Similar to iDeneb).

If not, I'll have to use a BootLoader I guess.

My motherboard has the HD3300, so I put in my old GeForce 6200 and tried to installed Leopard. I ended up having to use cpus=1 and some other stff to get it to work properly, so I was limited to 1 core, and old graphics card, and I used a IDE HDD..So I didn't try much at all to get anything to work, and decided to upgrade my GFX card. Now it's coming and I want to know..Will it work?

no distro yet... iKaros is meant to be out soon, but how soon???

You will need to use a different kernel, but one has been made, i dont know what its called though

Everyone has to use a bootloader... At the current, most people use PCEFI and Chameleon, which are graphical bootloaders... Theres nothing bad about that...

I have a 9800GT 512, and it runs flawlessly if thats what you mean about video cards...

All up, it will be hard work, but it should work (unless your mobo has some incompatibility)....

Hey thanks for the reply, I have worked around with this stuff before, just now kinda returning to it.

So what I'll need to do is get a retail image, do an AMD patch, add a new boot loader and kernel. Right?

Then start 'The Hunt' for drivers...

Sounds reasonable, I think I can do it. Though I haven't ordered my SATA DVD/RW drive, nor my GFX card yet so it will have to wait until I conjure up the money..haha

Can someone tell me why it has to be SATA? I've installed using an IDE DVD drive no problem, it was slow, sure, but it worked. People say it's hell getting it to work, and yeah it kinda was.

Glad to know that that GFX card will work, but I kinda what to futureproof a bit more and get an ATI 4850 (CorssFire when using Windows later on) does anyone know if the 512MB or 1GB works?

Thanks.
