joechip123
Hi, I've never built a computer before, though I am quite comfortable inside of one (I've replaced HDDs in a Rev. A MBP, RAM, HDD's, etc, in towers). I'm not going to pull the trigger quite yet (I'm going to wait until there's vanilla support - I just learned what the means ), but I wanted some advice on this build. Here's what I've come up with so far: Intel Core i7 860 GIGABYTE GA-P55-UD4P LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard XFX HD-487A-ZWFC Radeon HD 4870 1GB G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 Antec earthwatts EA500 500W Continuous Power 2 WD HDD's (one for OSX, one for Windows - I need one for each, right?) Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case One thought I've had is that I might be able to go with a micro ATX board and tower to save some money. Is that a good idea? What are the tradeoffs (sorry I'm such a noob )? I'm hoping to use this computer for music (Logic Pro and my MOTU 896HD), photo and movie editing, and gaming (mostly in Windows). Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/193548-first-hackintosh/ Share on other sites
joechip123
I just need confirmation on two issues before I order: Do I need a separate HDD for Windows? I'd just be using it for gaming. The MB comes with 2 SATA cables - am I correct in assuming that they also include the power cables? LogicalUser
It is not essential to have two hard drives for dual boot, it certainly is possible to install both OSes on just one drive. that looks like a quality PSU, I'd expect it to have at least 4 SATA power connectors available. I notice your build does not have a DVD drive, just a reminder that it should be SATA as well, OSX does not play nice with ATA/IDE drives for the most part.
