Hi everybody,

I did a search on the forum but I couldn't find anything related, sorry if there is, and I missed it.

So the issue is,

I have a perfectly working 10.5.2 leo4all Distro, and I am trying to update it to 10.5.8 for a while, I've tried many methods but so far I wasn't successful.

At the moment I am trying to patch MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8.pkg (10.5.8 Combo updater downloaded from apple) with Zephyroth's AMD Patcher 0.31. So far everything went fine, but now it seems to be stuck at 'Recreating BOM of the package ...'

Full log is attached, any help is appreciated,

Thanks in advance.

I succeeded installing 10.5.8 package patched by the app. but I had to restore my kexts, because after the installation USB drives were not recognised, and the update added some new kexts, too.

as for the usage of the app, it dislikes when you scroll through the log while it is working.

Did you do anything special to get this going or did you just dl the combo update 10.5.8 and patch it using zeph? Did you restore ALL the kexts? Been struggling getting mine updated using every method except zephs patcher...

yes, I just dl-ed the combo update 10.5.8 and patched it using zeph, nad yes - I restored all the kexts. but I think, that I could have found a less extreme solution, if I had got more time.

what I did exactly.

1. double-clicked the patched package and did a routine installation.

2. I tried to repair permissions without rebooting, but this did not work: Terminal did not let me into sudo.

3. so I booted from the leopard installation dvd and repaired permissions from it.

4. I booted the system to find out that everything works except USB-drives. still they can be seen in the System Profiler, so I suppose that I needed to reinstall some kext related to USB mass storage. but my knowledge is weak and the time is limited.

5. so I just removed the /System/Libarary/Extensions and Extensions.mkext manually.

6. put my back-up Extensions folder into /System/Library and cleared the recycle bin.

7. at this point the system started bugging me with multiple error messages.

8. I started the kext utility and it repaired the permissions.

9. three deleted kexts were still in the recycle bin, since they were in system use. so I had to reboot.

10. I booted the leopard installation dvd and repaired permissions once again - just in case. don't remember whether it found any mistakes.

11. and that's it.

right after this I patched and installed Security update 2009-006. it needed only one repairpermissions operation.

now everything works fine, except itunes: it doesn't want to play any files (though it plays radios and shows the itunes store). I think that itunes misbehaves because I updated it and quicktime using Apple's Software Update. seems to me there are a couple of CPUIDs in the iTunes package, too.

UPD. iTunes started working after I patched quicktime components in /System/Library/Quicktime.

3 of them could not be replaced, though. they are: QuickTimeFireWireDV, QuickTimeIIDCDigitizer and QuicktimeUSBVDCDigitizer.

According to their names, I might have some problems with removable media, like MP3-players or digital videocameras.
