leetcharmer Posted October 16, 2009 Share Posted October 16, 2009 Alright, I've done all the searching that I can to try and make coherent sense as to putting together a Snow Leopard install using my new retail DVD. I have included screenshots of my computer specs. It is an ASUS F8SP-X1 laptop with an upgraded CPU (Intel Core 2 Duo T7700). I have been able to boot into the installation using: 132MARS-20091008.iso (found somewhere on the forums here) However, upon boot, I get the error message that says that I need to restart my computer by holding down the power button. Any other boot CD I've used has failed to get that far. If you have any suggestions or if there is more information you need from me, please let me know. Chances are it's probably due to either a BIOS setting on the laptop, or even a setting in com.apple.Boot.plist in /INITRD.IMG/Extra. Can you send me the system specs? I can recreate an ISO for your laptop, that will hopefully work for you. You may be getting the KP (kernel panic) because of the ATI Radeon HD3650...... btw...... Netkas has support for ATI Radeon's, but I think it may only support 48xx's. Netkas' PC EFI v10.4 will make use of an HD3650, but only under Leopard. It does not, however, work under Snow. So, that may be why SL keeps kp'ing. I gathered as much information as I could from CPU-Z and included them in the first post as screenshots. I got further, I was able to boot into the installer and even run the Disk Utility. I got in by using the parameters: -v -x when booting the SL DVD from Chameleon. So, in the Disk Utility, I couldn't srink any partitions and so I had to sacrifice my Vista and Recovery partitions to make this move forward . So I formatted one big partition and made it Extended (Journaled) and GUID was selected and I began the SL Installation. However, halfway through the install, the screen goes black with a blinking cursor. I don't know what to do next, when I boot to that partition from the Boot 132 CD, it does a cpu kernel panic: "Should have 2 Threads, but only found 3 for Die 0" Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies): com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPlatform(1.3) dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOACPIFamily(1.3.0) dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.6) I'm in the process of starting over again, this time I'm making two partitions: 1 is 8GB large and will house the SL DVD image and the 2nd partition is 242GB for SL. Anyway, please let me know what you need to make a boot CD that will work on my machine. Thanks! I just ran the SL DVD install using just the parameter: -v This is what popped up: panic(cpu 1 caller 0x2a6ac2): Kernel trap at 0x48ed490f, type 14=page fault Backtrace (CPU 1), Frame: Return Address Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies): com.apple.ATIRadeonX2000(6.0.0) dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily I'm not sure how to move passed this one either.
