I also have an Asus ATI 4870 and also installed iDeneb 10.5.8. The issue I was having was different. I was getting a blank screen but I could tell that the system was coming up as I could get the startup chime sound. I have 2 DVI outs. I had connected the first DVI to my Flat Panel display and the second DVI out was unplugged. The only way I could get the 4870 to detect my monitor was to plug the second DVI with a dvi2vga plug and viola I got my video card to recognize the monitor with 60Hz resolution. I discovered this by accident as I wanted to test it thru the VGA adapter. I dont know why that is, I think this is a common problem with 4870s and I know even some MacPro owners are having this issue (with SL as well). (signal termination probably??). Try plugging one of the ports with a DVI2VGA adapter to see if it solves ur problem. (BTW I used VNC to figure out why it wasnt detecting my monitor and defaulting to 60Hz - but ofcourse this is after I got it working accidentally)

thanks Pronob, but this doesn't work. my card does not have 2 dvi outs. full specs are: Palit Radeon 4870 1 GB Sonic with 1 DVI, 1 D-Sub and 2 HDMI outs. In order to work i must connect it to the HDMI and to connect D-Sub in both card and monitor. Only in this scenario i have picture on my monitor.
