  1. hello, How did you guys manage to install Lion on L501X ? I'm stuck at Still waiting for root device as if Lion cannot recognise my harddrive. Of coure it is set to AHCI in BIOS and again no luck. Tried varius BIOS configurations and kexts but without progress. I've read most of the thread and did not find anyone with this problem. Can you help me with this ? My specs: Dell L501x i7 760QM GT 435M Chipset H57 BIOS A07 I'm installing form flash drive with FakeSMC and edited DSDT in Extra.
  2. hi gsly, Am I to assume that your fix is not brand specific and i can fix my ITOS() method simply by adding Store(Zero, Index(Local0, Local2)) before Return (Local0) at its end ? Like this: Method (ITOS, 1, NotSerialized) { Store (Buffer (0x09) { /* 0000 */ 0x30, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, /* 0008 */ 0x00 }, Local0) Store (Buffer (0x11) { "0123456789ABCDEF" }, Local7) Store (0x08, Local1) Store (Zero, Local2) Store (Zero, Local3) While (Local1) { Decrement (Local1) And (ShiftRight (Arg0, ShiftLeft (Local1, 0x02)), 0x0F, Local4) If (Local4) { Store (Ones, Local3) } If (Local3) { GBFE (Local7, Local4, RefOf (Local5)) PBFE (Local0, Local2, Local5) Increment (Local2) } } Store(Zero, Index(Local0, Local2)) Return (Local0) } Or there is more to do ? This is from Dell XPS L501x, Thanks

  6. 10.6.8 officially released

    AFAIK, the way for the system to check if a bus has device connected to it is - it checks VendorID register and if it returns ONEs (FFFF in hex) then there is no device connected because FFFF is illegal/reserved ID and there is no device in the world that has it.
  7. 10.6.8 officially released

    DarwinX, 10.6.8 IOPCIFamily.kext and AppleACPIPlatform.kext you need Archive.zip
  8. 10.6.8 officially released

    oh, yes sorry IOPCIFamily.kext is updated but the the first one - no. In fact i don't have this kext. Where is it ? In /S/L/E i have AppleACPIPlatform.kext and AppleAPIC.kext and both of them are from 01.08.2009.
  9. 10.6.8 officially released

    oSxFr33k, Thubnderbolt is a non essential device for OS X to work. On the other hand you don't have it so no device, no problem. Right ? LSPCI shows what devices you have and now the 64 bit address of one of them is igonred. The question is whether an update messes up with either the device configuration or the LSPCI software itself and making it unable to read specific device. Generally speaking, i think that we should first figure out what OS X reconfigures and why. Then it will be easy to fix it.
  10. 10.6.8 officially released

    i think all the guys that experience hangs at "PCI Configuration Begin" have nvidia cards so IMHO there is something about nvidia drivers that causes it.
  11. 10.6.8 officially released

    i noticed strange report by lspci. pcilib: 0000:02:00.0 64-bit device address ignored. it was not present with 10.6.7. could it be related to "pci configuration begin" thing ? how to tell what device is at this address ?
  12. 10.6.8 officially released

    no issue here. everything works fine. just one question: What is this "PCI configuration begin" anyway ? Didn't have it before 10.6.8. Obviously OS X doesn't like something about PCI bus or a device on it and reconfigures it, but what and why ?
  13. DSDT editor and patcher

    thanks oldnapalm, removing Args was the first thing i thought of, but i really want to know what i'am doing and if this is the appropriate thing to do. UPDATE: Playing with the L501X DSDT i came upon this situation In this device: Device (A_CC) { Name (_HID, "SMO8800") Method (_STA, 0, NotSerialized) { Return (0x0F) } Name (_UID, One) Name (BUF2, ResourceTemplate () { Interrupt (ResourceConsumer, Edge, ActiveHigh, Exclusive, ,, ) { 0x00000014, } }) Method (_CRS, 0, Serialized) { Return (BUF2) } Method (_SRS, 1, Serialized) { Return (BUF2) } } iaslMe compiler from 16.03.2011 gives a warning: /Volumes/MacStorage/Dropbox/Dell XPS L501X/dsdt1.dsl 8754: Return (BUF2) Warning 1128 - Reserved method should not return a value ^ (_SRS) But DSDTEditor for Mac from the first post does not consider it a warning and compiles dsdt cleanly. Which is the right one ?
  14. DSDT editor and patcher

    hi guys, Been trying lately to fix DSDT for Dell XPS L501X (Core i7 720QM, 8GB RAM, GeForce GT 435M) but i came upon this problem. It's an error and a warning in line 4277 in this Method under Device (PEGP) and the error: I tried to figure this out my self and tried the following without success: 1. I moved Return (NVOP) at the bottom, just below Arg3. In this case the warning disappears, but the parse error stays. 2. Then i tried to put all Args in the return command as the next If: If (LEqual (Arg0, Buffer (0x10) { /* 0000 */ 0xF8, 0xD8, 0x86, 0xA4, 0xDA, 0x0B, 0x1B, 0x47, /* 0008 */ 0xA7, 0x2B, 0x60, 0x42, 0xA6, 0xB5, 0xBE, 0xE0 })) { P8XH (Zero, 0xE7) Return (NVOP (Arg0, Arg1, Arg2, Arg3)) } but then i get this Can you help me fixing this ? Oh, and the dsdt - dsdt.dsl.zip
