I did a fresh install of Snow Leopard on my GA-G31M-ES2L using this guide

http://lifehacker.com/5360150/

The hardware I have is:

GA-G31M-ES2L (rev 1)

Intel E5200

Nvidia 7900GS DVI Card

The graphics look good, install went fine, only issue that I seem to be having is the audio.

I don't see any input/output devices under 'Sound'

I tried installing Kexts I had in 10.5.8 using OSX86Tools but that does not work.

I downloaded the Kext Utility from this site and tried to install a few kexts, including the one the lifehacker site mentioned, still don't see anything in regards to the sound.

Can anyone help? I did a few fresh installs but no luck with sound on Snow Leopard.

Thanks!

This is the guide I used for the exact same board (rev 1 also) and I had sound from the start:

Not sure what it could be, maybe the included DSDT.aml file from the guide above will work, alternatively you could try AppleAzaliaAudio.kext (google) for audio output.

Any help?

Thanks

You can try VoodooHDA.kext, use the new Kext Utility 2.3 to do this, but you may want to upgrade to 10.6.1 before apply this kext otherwise you will end up with bad audio output. Be aware that you will not have 5.1 audio with this VoodooHDA kext.

This is so frustrating . I went to the infitemac guide you linked, downloaded the zip file with the attachments.

I installed all the kexts including all audio, no luck.

I installed some voodo audio package, no luck.

I'll try to find the voodoohda.kext file.

my graphics work great, might have to go with the infinitemac guide, though wish it was a bit more simpler.

thanks

This is getting so frustrating in getting audio to work.

You know i went for trying the infinitemac guide, but guess what, since im on 10.6.1, chameleon fails on the install on my usb drive.

ugh

i didnt expect it to, but it does, now im thinking i need to go back to 10.5.6/10.5.8, create my usb drive again with the snowleopard img and install chameleon on the usb.

then go from there.

all this to get sound to work.

anyone else have any suggestions? maybe im not doign something right with the kext utility, basically im dragging the kext on to the utility, entering my password and letting it run. i even repair permissions, then restart, but still no device in Sound under input/output

thanks

I just completed an install on this board using the infinitemac guide (full system specs in sig). I was able to get onboard audio to work using VoodooHDA 0.2.2 kext. I just installed it using Kext Helper and it worked fine. Although, after installing you still need to make sure you've set the audio correctly under 'Sound' in System Preferences.
