Mankal
I'm looking at this Socket 478 processor and I have a copy of Mac OSX 10.4.5 Universal Install and I was wondering if just any Socket 478 mobo works with OSx86? fOZf8
Seeing that it's a 478, for best compatibility I would go with an intel based chipset, the 915 and 925s would probably work best, they both usually have ICH6 southbridges too, which work great...as for the other onboard peripherals, results may vary (ie, sound, lan) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19046-just-any-mobo/#findComment-124788 Share on other sites
Mankal
Any suggestions of specific mobos that work well with OSx86? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19046-just-any-mobo/#findComment-124855 Share on other sites
gwprod12
Well, from my perspective, I'd buy a 775 board. Especially with a 945 chipset. The reason? Socket 478 is at about the end of it's product lifespan. If you already have a socket 478 CPU, try to sell it and get a Pentium D 775. End of life span= cheap any way dont worry so much about the socket on the bored but more about the chipsets it has Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19046-just-any-mobo/#findComment-124899 Share on other sites
gwprod12
why spend $150 for a socket 478 motherboard and cpu when you can spend a little more on a 945 chipset with 775 cpu. It doesnt make sense to spend money on something that you wont be able to upgrade effectively. EDIT: does the 915G even come in 478? RE-Edit: ECS makes a 915 chipset 478 board.
