10.5.8 laptop won't switch to battery power

I updated my DV6000 hackintosh to 10.5.8 from 10.5.7 and after having sleep/shutdown problems i swapped for the 5.7 kernel. That fixed my sleep problems, but ever since the update my laptop will always show the power adapter as the power source regardless if it is plugged in or running on the battery.

I've tried using the voodoo battery, but that just made it display two battery icons.
