travelmate 8210 8215 patched and retail install

hi dudes,

i've been playn around with this lappy for a while. i own an 8215 wlhi and i'm quite satisfied.

i've spent many hours tryng to fix all the issues and seems i'm quite done with it.

now i'm with ipc 10.5.6 on internal sata with dual boot xp/osx.

latest bios installed (3522)

 

this is what doesn't work since the beginning:

dual core cpu, because system hangs on 2nd cpu during boot.

cpu temp is really high

lan init causes a kp with the appleintel8254 kext (part of IOnetwork kext).

pcmcia doesn't work

firewire doesn't work

audio doesn't work

ati vga x1600 has qe/ci enabled but fixed res and mouse tearing

integrated cam doesn't work

wifi doesn't work

no battery meter

 

 

so, let's try to fix the more we can!

 

cpus: if you want a fast fix use cpus=1, or if you do not care about cpu temp use idlehalt=0 and both cores will work.

i prefere a dsdt patch to enable dual core and fix all other issues.

the high temp is a pain in the ass, but i guess is an acer problem, because also on win the temp is pretty high..

i use superhai's vodoopowermini kext to drop it a bit.

 

audio: thnx to taruga, the 883 is unlocked and 100% working (also internal mic). the hda injectors (883 add0) works fine with latest chameleon

 

lan simple fix: just remove the 8254x kext from ionetwork to skip the kp, but of course lan will never work in this way.

 

lan/firewire/pcmcia: using chunnan (aka eureka) fix for pcmcia bus,you'll "unlock" also internal firewire and lan.

internal firewire still has some issues (i can't use any dvcam with it), but pcmcia slot is 100% working (both pcmcia slots)so you can buy a pcmcia fw card (as i did) and enjoy fw400 and fw800.

 

vga: i've tryed plenty of posts and solution, but with injectors i keep on getting black screen and wrong resolutions.

the only 2 kext that works for me are an injector kext, and a specific version of ATINDRV.kext (i dunno if is patched or vanilla, and from which distro it comes, if some1 knows, please let me know).

with those 2 files i can get 1600x1080 res qe/ci active with both (dvi and vga) output, mirroring and extended desk.

if some1 can find what's wrong with vanilla ATINDRV and/or the injector please let me know

those kext aren't 100% working (i would say 90%), sometimes i get vertical black and white lines, or a super cyan screen, but a simple power off/on fix the problem, so if those files aren't working at first try, try it again....

 

integrated cam: still doesn't work, also with maccam drivers.

10.5.1-10.5.5 maccam starts, than pops up a green screen enablig the cam than is stops

10-5.5-10.5.x maccam starts, than pops up an usb communication problem.

 

wifi: still doesn't work, but project camphor, and javalui are edveloping some drivers, so let's hope

 

battery meter: superhai's vodoobattery kext will solve the problem

 

RETAIL INSTALL:

i'm on ipc 10.5.6 on internal sata, and i'm doing all the tests on an external usb.

 

i've formatted external usb with guid, mounted retail 10.5.1 iso image

open /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ DVD/System/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg

installed retail on external usb.

installed 10.5.x combo upgrade

copied DSDT file into root

installed Chameleon-2.0-RC2-r640 and added all the needed kext:

i've used "standard" chameleon injectors, appledecrypt, voddoobattery, voodoops2,hda 883 add0 kext and its injectors

than i built extensions.mkext putting it into the /extra folder(using mkexttool) and deleted the extension folder(i mean the folder into /extra)

i did that because hda will not work if is not loaded from extensions.mkext

copied IOPCMCIAfamily kext into S/L/E

IMPORTANT: the IOPCMCIAfamily.kext need to be placed into S/L/E otherwise internal lan won't be enabled and osx won't boot due to UUID error

rebooted with flag -s

and used terminal to repair permission of IOPCMCIAfamily.kext

 

/sbin/mount -uw /

cd /system/library/extensions

chmod -R 755 IOP*.*

chown -R root:wheel IOP*.*

touch /system/library/extensions

reboot

 

and now the leo kitty works like a charm with firewire at fulll speed! (the firewire security speed error is gone!)

WARNING: the IOPCMCIAfamily.zip linked is for retail version up to 10.5.5, if you want to use retail 10.5.6-10.5.8, please download the IOPCMCIA10.5.8.zip linked

 

 

tuning smbios memory error:

simple edit smbios.plist and put into the /extra folder.

 

vga "unlock"

copy pre patched kext (linked zip), repair permission, and voila'

 

10.5.8 and hda: if you use hda injector into extra folder you'll get a kernel panic, so i suggest you to use "old" taruga patcher waiting for a fix.
