My Ethernet doesn't work. I have a Intel® PRO/100 VE Network Connection (anyone know how to fix this? :) ).

The reason I know it doesn't work is because I tried to use my friends Ethernet modem and it just wouldn't read anything. The setup wouldn't even let me select Ethernet.

I am trying to figure out how to fix the Ethernet but I have since given away the modem and so there is no way for me to test if it works (after tweaking around the system) until I but one of eBay.

Is there a way of seeing on the system (for sure) that it works or will work when connected to the Ethernet modem?

Thanks for any help

If you need a driver go to:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downlo...2&Software=True

To install follow the instructions from Hockeyrules look for the post dated Apr 5 2006, 01:47 AM with a lot of informations: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=13430

Good Luck. :D

I understand what you're saying but I was looking for something to just state that my Ethernet card is being read. And will work.

I know this isn't 100% full proof but I was looking for something a bit like Windows Device Manager which shows error icons next to devices that are not working or else no errors next to one working.

I'm kind of new (3 months till first installation but don't really use it) so any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

In Applications > Utilities > System Profiler there is a Network item.

Before I bought my working Realtek card, this just said Built-in Ethernet, without IP address etc.

Now I have an extra item for the PCI card in a PCI slot, including IP address and other info.

If you have no actual network to connect to you won't get an IP, but I guess there should be a displayed MAC address.
