technominds
Hey guys, this is my first post to the forum to try to go easy on me! I'm a music producer and graphic designer from London, I currently use PC for music and Mac for design work. I installed OSX86 a couple of years ago when it was in it's first stages. Since then I have bought myself a MacBook Pro for design work and decided to scrap the installation I had on my PC. Last year I bought myself a nice and powerful PC that has a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, Abit IP35 Pro XE Socket 775 Motherboard with 2GB Corsair RAM. I have got a little bit fed-up of using my PC software for producing music and would like to move over to mac for my music too. I was wondering if there is anything I will need to change before going ahead and installing OSX86. I will not be using on-board sound, as I have a Mac/PC compatible PCI-e soundcard (Echo Layla24) which I can get drivers for Mac. The question is, do I use my current PC hardware? Or should I buy a new PC tower made of specific parts that are known to work well with OSX86. If I were to go with buying a new tower, what motherboard/graphics card are known to work well on OSX? If any other music producers could give me some advice, or just those who are savvy with this kind of thing, that would be awesome! Hope I haven't babbled, or missed the point, - TM Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/188625-music-producer-converting-pc/ Share on other sites
wixdfast
I think you're current build would be totally fine. The only thing I didn't see in your post, was what GPU do you have? That may or may not be a problem, most likely not though. Other than that, the only flag I noticed was, the soundcard may or may not work, but I would assume it would work, if it really is both Mac/PC compatible. Anyways, I'd suggest download the iAtkos DVD, burning at the lowest speed possible. You can follow my guide, if you'd like to. It won't be tailored specifically towards your hardware, but the general information will be there: http://www.youtube.com/user/Wixdfast2 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/188625-music-producer-converting-pc/#findComment-1279153 Share on other sites

If it doesn't work what graphics card would you recommend. I actually have a 24" LED display with the mini display adaptor, so I wouldn't mind getting a graphics card that would work with that.. or just get any one that will work and I can find an adaptor for the screen if need be. At what point will I know wether the GPU will work? I just found a spare 320GB IDE hard drive, so i'm planning on taking out all the HD's that are currently in my machine and trying to install to this new one (to prevent any damage to the current machine state). I downloaded iDeneb 1.4, should I not use this and use iAtkos instead? I couldn't find the video on your youtube page, do you have a direct link? EDIT: I also don't want the internet working, that doesn't bother me at all. I'd rather this machine stayed offline! peach-os
I wrote a guide for a DAW a while ago. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...=132695&hl= I know it is not up to date, but you might find some useful hints - especially the backup strategy.
