My mb is an ECS nForce4 socket 939 with an Athlon 64 3000+ Venice core, onboard PATA and SATA. I have successfully installed LawlessPPC 10.5.4 (I'm using it now), but I need 10.5.7 for the iPhone SDK.

I am having problems getting the install DVD for iATKOS v7 (10.5.7) to boot, I get stuck at a "waiting for root device" message. I am using the same settings that I installed 10.5.4 with, not that there are many on my board relating to ATA. I am currently in a DVD as master/PATA drive as slave on primary IDE, although I have tried other configurations, including using an SATA drive. So, I assumed that my hardware configuration was not the issue, as LawlessPPC didn't have problems booting the install DVD.

I used TransMac to strip the System/Library/Extensions.mkext, System/Library/Extensions/ and the mach_kernel (Darwin 9.4) from LawlessPPC installation DVD. I tried 3 different modified iATKOS DVDs, one with with Extensions.mkext replaced, one with both mkext and the Extensions folder replaced (with -f boot switch), and one adding the Darwin 9.4 kernel and using that instead of 9.5 or 9.7 from Chameleon. As far as I know, "that one should have worked" :( But it didn't. Same problem, waiting for root device.

Where do I go from here? I would like to know *why* its not booting, instead of just trying another distribution. Is there more that needs to be modified for the installation other than kernel and kexts?

restore your Iaktos V7 DVD on a Stick USB, install on it chameleon 1.0.12 and boot from USB stick an install Iaktos V7.

It is disk controller related problem. Read this i h a c k i n t o s h.com/2009/05/still-waiting-for-root-device/ Need to install an appropriate SATA/ATA/IDE controller driver cos it is not installed by default. e.g. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=88335
