Ive spent 3 days trying to get my copy of IPC 10.5.6 to install on my Dell Laptop.

Various posts asking for help have been burried with no replies.

So one last question before I throw in the towell on this one and go back to good ole Windows.

Is it possible to pop in your copy of IPC 10.5.6 and expect it to boot and install.

Asuming you have created a primary partion of 10 GB and marked it active.

Or am I missing the bus here and have to do a whole lot of circuss before this can happen ?

A simple More Circus required or it should install off the DVD is all Im asking for.

As part of the Circus Im downloading BootSL.iso the boot 132 CD but dont think this will help either.

There answer is "it depends." It depends on your hardware, it depends on the details of your configuration (partition layout, etc.), it depends on what options you select. If you're very lucky, you'll get it up and running quickly. If you're unlucky, it'll be impossible. For most people, it comes in-between -- it takes a few attempts and a lot of wading through forum posts and other online guides to learn what options to select for your hardware.

Many newbie's questions go unanswered because they provide insufficient detail (or occasionally too much detail) or because they're asking questions that have been answered a zillion times before. (Note that I've not looked for your posts, so I don't know if they fall into these categories.)

y dont u check the Hardware compatibly list ( HCL) on wikipedia and as rod said it depends on the hardware and ipc worked just fine on my comp all i had to do was install some audio and display drivers which wern't really that hard to find , browse the forum u might find some answers, i did.. hth

Here is the funny bit.

I purchased this Laptop because I was told it would be the easiest to load OSX onto because its almost identical to the Mac Book. At the chip level.

And it gets even funnier. This has got to be the crappiest laptop Ive owned in my life. Not only is the laptop {censored}. But Dell Support is the worst.

More funny stuff. For a laptop that is allmost identical to a Mac Book. There isnt a lot of info out there on geting OSX to load and run.

As far is luck goes. Luck doesn't seem to be on my side these days.

So will just throw in the towel.

Ps: The Boot 132 or what ever has become another coaster on my table. Ive not got 11 so far. It didnt help.

Its been close to a month of browsing.

The key would seem to be that your willing to format your hard disk and live with just one os. Which is not ok for me as most of my Engine Simulators will only run well on XP or win7.

Or you should have a second hard disk which this laptop dont support.

Have fun guys.

Ps: The wiki info was checked on day 1. Sketchy at best with one entry saying I got it to install.

Thanks for the replies guys. WIll wait come back after a few months. Im sure the hackitosh community will refine it to a point where its easier to install by then.

just for the sake of it. didn't you notice you're in the wrong section ?

you're talking about iPC 10.5.6

10.5.6 is a leopard system not a snow leo.

and by the way how should anyone help you if you didn't even tell us the name/modell of your laptop ? or the hardware config ?

it's like expecting of a mechanics to tell you how to repair your car if he has neven seen it and doens't know which car you're exactly talking about.

so if you would be able to tell people what spec you're using and as rod already said which partition map etc. you're using we could possibly provide you more help.

  • 7 months later...

The two DVDs I tried with where

1. OEM DVD 10.5

2. XXX 10.5.6 Retail DVD (Black Snow Lepard).

Config:

Dell XPS M1530 /Nvida GPU/340GB HDD/2GB Ram/Intell 965 Chip Set/

Thanks to all the people who offered to help me for money.

Im posting this from my Up and runing hackintosh.

Anybody who wants to hackintosh. I would sugest dont follow the guides.

The Guide Said I would need to dump my DVD to a USB drive and do 101 circus tricks to get my hackintosh to work.

The actuall process of geting it to work is quite simple.

a. Get the Boot CD which matches your hardware

b. Make sure you have a partition created with enough space on your hard disk. Dont bother with the GUID / MBR stories.

c. Boot with your Boot CD / Install Retail DVD.

d. Turn off wifi catcher / keep everything else as defualt chose AHCI not ATA for IDE

e. Install the valina but customize to add the right drivers for your sound / lan etc.

f. When you boot up make your windows OS default partition.

g. Install EASY BCD in windows and add an entry for Mac

h.Boot into mac os and figure out whats not working. Then go looking for the drivers.

I repeat dont follow the guides you will go mad. And not get anywhere. I spent hundreds of man hours reading it was such a waste of time.

Its a black disk with a snow lepard on it why would you say Im in the wrong section ?
