Hi guys!

Because of personal and business related reasons, I don't have time to do this anymore. I also don't use a Hackintosh anymore. Please! Stop sending me PMs. I would love to help, but I simply don't have time for this anymore. If you can't use this tutorial for any reasons, please ignore it. Sorry and thanks for your understanding!

PLEASE NOTICE! This is a first raw version of the tutorial, you can call it Beta! I will go on and finalize it within the next days!

Hey guys,

so you want to give your ASUS P5Q Deluxe some of the 64bit magic? Here is how.

Please notice that the credits for the stuff shown is going mainly to the creator of OSX86Tutorials on YouTube. This is just a collection of stuff from different sources put together into one seamless guide, so you don't have to search so much on your own :-)

Requierments:

- ASUS P5Q Deluxe mainboard

- at least 1GB RAM

- nVidia GeForce card (this is the harder part in Snow Leopard); I'm running a GeForce 8600 GTS with 256MB RAM

- a running Leopard installation*

- at least 2 harddisks (this should also work with 2 partitions, but I recommend the usage of a backup Leopard installation as there is no Boot CD or USB stick used in this tutorial)

- this file: http://rapidshare.com/files/283781417/SL-F..._P5Q_Deluxe.zip

- SATA HDDs

- SATA DVD-ROM

If you have NOT installed Leopard already, start here!

Ok - so you're completely new to Hackintosh maybe? I like to give you a crash course.

1. Download this file which contains all you need (except a Leopard DVD, you need to buy the Retail one on your own :) )

2. Write the containing ISO file to a CD and be sure you can boot it. This is your lifevest!

3. Copy all the other stuff to an USB stick, external HDD or even onto another CD-R.

4. If you don't already have, you NEED TO flash your BIOS next. Sounds risky and maybe it is, but I've done this several times and it simply works very nice. Get it from here. This is the 1702 BIOS which works quiet nice! (Credits to juzzi and his thread: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...36586&st=0). Save this file to an USB stick and be sure to attach it when you boot.

5. Enter the BIOS and select the EZ Flash utility. DO A BACKUP OF YOUR CURRENT BIOS TO THE USB STICK. Update the BIOS once the backup is done with the newer patched BIOS. BE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT INTERRUPT THE FLASH PROCESS! If you do this, you will KILL your mainboard. If you live in an area with often power outages you SHOULD do this ONLY if you connect your PC to a UPS! When this is done, the system will reboot. Enter the BIOS again!

6. Then, you need to set your BIOS to AHCI usage of your SATA HDD(s). When you install Leopard first, better remove the SATA cable from the HDD that should become your Snow Leopard HDD, so we don't rush into trouble later.

7. Mainly follow this tutorial, I've written for the GA-P35-DS3: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=157772. Of course, IGNORE the BIOS part and don't add the KEXT files shown or linked there. This could crash your system! Simply follow the Steps from my ZIP file that you've downloaded earlier.

NOTICE: It's ok if you just do Step 2 & 3 from my ZIP file. We don't want to setup the "Perfect" Leopard based Hackintosh, we just need a base to install Snow Leopard from.

If you already have installed Leopard, join HERE! and download KextHelper and put it onto an USB stick! If you've done Steps 1-7, you already have this tool.

8. Once you're done with that and have installed Leopard and are able to boot to it, you should shut down your computer, attach the SATA cable to the new Snow Leopard HDD and run into the BIOS. Be sure that you've selected the Leopard HDD for primary boot! We will changed this later once the Snow Leopard is installed.

9. When you boot into Leopard, you should receive a message telling you that there is a new HDD found and that you should initialize that. Do this! Use HFS+ and GUID as option (take a look at the other tutorial for details!).

10. Done? Great. Now comes the a bit more complicated part. Start with watching this video:

It explains all you need to know and to do the main installation of Snow Leopard. I've followed this tutorial step by step and that's the way I've installed the nice running Snow Leopard on my ASUS P5Q Deluxe!

11. When you've successfully booted into Snow Leopard, you should grab the P5Q Folder you've downloaded earlier and extract it to the Desktop. Put the kexthelper file into Applications folder and launch it from there.

12. Drop the files from the folder "Extensions System 64Bits & 32Bits" into the kexthelper and give the system a restart. Things like sound and network should work now :)

13. The graphic card is a problem in Snow Leopard as OSx86 Tools do NOT work here. You can download EFIStudio and maybe you've luck.

I've read some information that the 9x00 series of nVidia are supported by OSX directly, so maybe you don't need to add a driver.

If you have a 256MB 8600GT oder 8600GTS, you can use the following HEX string and put it into your /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist AND into /Extras/com.apple.Boot.plist:

Please notice that things like timeout just work if you put it into the Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist. The reason is quiet simple: Chameleon uses this one to boot from here ;)

What DOES NOT work yet:

- Sleep

- Audio In

- Digital In & Out

- more than 1 graphics card

- Update seems not to update anything iTunes related

What works:

- Shutdown

- Restart

- Audio Out (Analog)

- Network (the one on the bottom/right one)

- AHCI

- Some GeForce cards

- Full 64bit

Hope you are successfull by using this tutorial collection. If you have comments, please post it here.

Hi thenight,

well - honestly: wow - the thread really appears now :( I was a bit frustrated because it does not come up yesterday when I posted it.

Anyway, to answer your questions:

- I heard about people having trouble with the 2201 version and everytime it was recommended to user 1702. So I also recommend this, as SL works seamless on my rig with it.

- As I mentioned in my post already, it seems like NVkush and SL don't work together. Looks like you need to build or find a plist file that you should "compile" to an HEX file using netkas gfxutil. After that, you can add this HEX code as "device-property" into your /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist as shown above.

Let's hope that NVkush will be released for Snow Leopard aswell. I had to remove my 2nd graphics card and use "just" 2x 22" instead 3 of them now. :D

I do not see a folder named "Extensions System 64Bits & 32Bits". Are you referring to the folder that is under "Step 2 - Boot & Basic Drivers" called "Extensions"?

I have a GTS250 512MB and I didn't have to modify a thing for the video. Dual Display and full resolution when I boot to install the OS.

I have tried the guide on a p5q deluxe. It seems that the method was created for the Gibabyte Mobo used in the tutorial. You would need to go the the older version of that post and compile everything manually. One thing I have used and it works is the Mars 132 boot disc. The SL install errors out at the end but that is because it can't boot. I simply boot from that cd. I am planning on using that install and walking all the way through cpt. Nemo's on another drive. Right now I don't have internet or Sound and have to boot from the Mars disc.

Can you expound on this a little bit please?? I walked all the way through the process... what is strange is that my GTS 250 works out of the box with the boot 132 method and installing the SL w/o touching the OSXInstall.mpkg. When I did it this way on another drive it didn't recognize the card.

Also, I place all audio kext files you have in the Extensions folder and no sound....

Same for the Network...

I am using onboard audio and Network....Are you using AC97 in your bios settings?

finally got it installed :D

Graphics card (QuadroFX 1500) working out of the box, all HDD working, PS/2 keyboard working with some other patch, audio and lan also working :)

Can you list exactly what kexts you installed and how please? I am not understanding why my lan and sound do not work after I install and reboot as described in the Guide.

i did pretty much what the guide lists , installed it after i booted into SL with kext helper and then restarted, try using the verbose mode to see if its loading it etc, also i repaired permissions with the disk utility.

i dont if this will help or not but i used the UUID method and extra files.zip from this thread.http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...p;#entry1293775

the kexts for audio and lan where the ones CaptainNemo provided and not the ones from the above thread.

and also deleted all the Ati drivers and i'm using the bios from the above mentioned thread 2201 hth :P

btw i dont have write access for my Ntfs drives, ne solutions for that ???

edit: got the NTFS thing fixed by booting with arch=i386 and installed paragon NTFS for Mac

Thanks for the reply, I did get sound working but I am still having trouble with LAN. Did you have to edit anything? I saw a few posts where people were needing to edit the model of the adapter in the config. I am going to do a clean install again today and see how it goes.

didn't edit anything , try putting it in the E/E folder from leopard and then boot up SL or install the kexts with OSxtools into SL b4 u start it and use -v to see it loads... it was loading for me b4 i could get into SL desktop

I was doing all of the work from SL. I basically plugged in a 2nd harddrive. Saying that because OSX Tools doesn't work in SL. I installed Chameleon 2 RC3 on there via the terminal but this does not create an E/E folder. There is a Backup Extensions folder and I put them there.

I never got a reply back about which kext folder Cptn Nemo is referring to. If I put all of the kexts he has in the download in the system I get ACPI kernel panics, and if I put in all but the ACPI I do not get sound or LAN. I am using a modded 2005 bios.

I put all kexts into the System/Libraries/Ext... folder via KextHelper after initial boot and then repaired permissions.

I got the dmg image modded like the video and obviously installing to a different HDD. Can you give me a little more detail on what I should do post install if I am working from an existing SL install? Any help is greatly appreciated.

also go into the bios and check if lan 1 is active, Lan 1 use's the marvell 88E8056 chip, lan 2 is marvell 88E8001.

if ur not using a ATI card then delete all the ati drivers in S/L/E

also might wana try updating the bios: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=185231

and plz have a backup copy of the original bios

the bios file is working real nice for me... i'm assuming u have a P5Q deluxe motherboard

Thanks a ton bro...

Quick question... Do I put everything in the archive in the E/E folder after the Chameleon install? I asked somewhere about the _MACOSX folder. What is it for and where does it go?

are u talking about the files i uploaded??

if yes, then just install them with kextshelper or add them in S/L/E ( kexthelper is better)

I did.. Thanks... I am actually replying from my hackintosh now. I still dont have sound. I am about to try it again and repair permissions. I also have my dual monitors working after removing all of the ATI kexts. I thought that would be harder than that.

Your profile says you are in India.... are you really cuz it would be kinda late there right now.

PS.... I GOT SOUND AND INTERNET AND DUAL MONITORS!! THANKS A MILLION!

Does anyone know how to get sleep working on this motherboard with Snow Leopard 64 bit? SleepEnabler.kext crashed my system at startup.

- Eric

I have attached my Extra folder. It is all that is needed for a fresh install.

Sound - AD2000b works with the kext in /E/E and my DSDT.aml.

Ethernet - Modified, and set as root, ionetworkingfamily.kext

Sleep works as well without any need for SleepEnabler.kext.

-USB shows as built-in, so wake from keyboard/mouse works

Not working:

Jmicron SATA ports - You can fix this by adding the Jmicron kext and AHCIportinjector - I think. I did not bother.

I think only 1 LAN is working, but I can't say that I care.
