If it were a complete lack of a driver, then the disk wouldn't show up at all. The driver could be buggy, though.

I have a couple of suggestions. First, Red Phoenix, please post more details. Is the disk SATA or PATA? What precisely are you trying to do? That is, what menu items do you select, what buttons do you click, etc.? What precise error messages are you seeing? Write everything down or take photos and post them. Is your disk already partitioned, and if so, are you using MBR or GPT partitions?

Second, you might have better luck by formatting the disk in another way. For instance, System Rescue CD is a Linux emergency disc that includes the ability to partition a disk and format a partition for HFS+. You'd type "mkfs -t hfsplus /dev/sda1" or something similar to do the formatting. (You'd change "/dev/sda1" to an appropriate device identifier, but you'll have to figure out the correct identifier yourself.)

1. my disk is PATA

2. the moment I try to partition, either using GPT or MBR, always failed

I even try to zero first from seagate utility program under DOS but still no work..
