Hi all,

This is 2 ways to install Snow Leopard installed on the MSI P45 NEO F:

Make sure your Snow Leopard drive is partitioned as GUID for guide 1.

I named the partition Snow for guide 1.

You need an install of Leopard for guide 1, with the latest chameleon installed as the boot loader.

Guide 1:

First, insert the Snow Leopard DVD and go to /Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/ and Open OSInstall.mpkg. When it's finished installing, open OSX86Tools and select Install Kexts.

Install fakesmc.kext from Netkas with OSX86Tools. Now reboot and select Snow in chameleon and boot with cpus=1 -v. It takes a little while to boot, but if it takes more than 10 minutes, it failed.

Onboard ALC888 needed AppleHDA.kext and HDAEnabler.kext for 64 bit. Both are attached to this post.

I have an nVidia GeForce 9500 GT 1gb with qe/cl enabled in Snow Leopard, but not in Leopard.

I used an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 in the guides.

I attached a picture of my Snow Leopard install. If you have any trouble, just post a comment.

UPDATE: 10.6.1 recently came out. You can use Software update to install, then just reboot, and you are running 10.6.1.

UPDATE 2: 10.6.2 is out. Follow these instructions:

First, download the 10.6.2 update from Apple, then launch Kext Helper b7 and drag fakesmc.kext into Kext Helper. Then, upgrade using the downloaded DMG, but before rebooting, click Easy Install in Kext Helper. When it gives the succession window, go back to Installer and click reboot. Now you're running 10.6.2!

EDIT: tadbattery has told me how he updated to 10.6.2. It is a simpler way, which doen't require messing with kexts:

First, backup your kernel in 10.6.1 with OSX86Tools, update using the downloaded delta update, then reboot into a second install (maybe Leopard or Snow Leopard) and use OSX86Tools to restore the kernel to the new 10.6.2 system. Then, reboot into the 10.6.2 installation.

Guide 2:

Just download Psystars free RebelEFI boot disk. It installs Snow Leopard, but gives an error "Unable to make computer start up from Hard Drive". Just ignore the message, reboot and boot from RebelEFI CD and select Hard Drive. Once you get to the Desktop, you need to install the latest Chameleon, or buy RebelEFI. I modified my com.apple.boot.plist to get QE supported.

UPDATE: I have changed a couple of steps, so it doesn't seem so confusing or need second partitions. There is also a fix for AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext without removing it; Just use fakesmc.kext from Netkas.

EDIT: For those who need them, but can't find AppleHDA.kext and SleepEnabler.kext for Snow Leopard X64, I have attached them to this post.

UPDATE: I recently found out that the kexts from TechnoJunkie are not required. Just use fakesmc, as said in the guide. If you did install them, don't remove them, you will get a kernel panic.

UPDATE: There is a better kext than VoodooHDA, which fixes crackling sound after waking from sleep, and microphone. I have replaced it in the attached file.

UPDATE: I will no longer be updating this guide, as I now have a Dell Studio laptop, and have given my MSI to a friend.

I hope this guide helps people,

Zac.

Hi KeShhh®,

You need to use Kalyway 10.5.1. I installed with the top 2 options selected, then let it reboot. Select DVD from the BIOS boot menu, and let it count down and boot the new system. To install 10.5.6 and above, you need a second install of 10.5.1. The fix to "16384 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers" is to install 10.5.1 kexts in the new 10.5.6 install. I also had to remove AppleSMC.kext, AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext and the firewire kexts. Then, use my guide to install Snow Leopard.

Also, make sure you have AHCI and APIC enabled in BIOS.

hi Zac I'm new to this world and I've been trying to install the ppf5 final version of Leopard 10.5.6 with no luck, I have a MSI p45 Neo mobo and an intel e7300 processor, I have to boot with cpus=1 and in the fixes I choose the acpi fix for the cluster headers error and the cpus=1 fix, finally I got to install but after that it gets stuck at any kernel choice, either sleep or voodoo, can you please help me!!!

Any way you can give the bios setting for the P45 Neo-F. I got retail Snow Leopard 10.6.1, but always looking to tweak for better improvement.

Hi tadbattery,

I use default BIOS settings with APIC, AHCI and ACPI enabled.

I tried it on my msi neo3-FIR but I always get stuck here:

ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::start - waitForService(resourceMatching(AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement) timed out

I used empire efi. (I also tried Rebel EFI but I wasn't able to boot either).

MSI neo3-FIR

E8400

Ati Club 3D HD4870

I'm using empire efi 1.08 with hd48xx support.

Hi silentkiller,

Did it get stuck at the same point with RebelEFI? You can try adding fakesmc.kext to the Preboot.dmg file on the EmpireEFI disk (you should be able to find info on how to do this on Google). Once you find out how to add the file, place it in /Volumes/Preboot/Extra/Extensions/. This should fix the problem.

Zac.

Oh ok, i tought it was already in the preboot.dmg. I know how to put it there because i have already a hackintosh running on my laptop. I'll try to put the right kexts for snow leopard in the preboot.dmg when I'm at home and let you know if it worked

thanks,

silentkiller

Ok, i think i passed the error (fakesmc was already in empire efi, but i didn't disable the IDE controller). But now I'm stuck at a new error, prob it got something to so with my hd4870. I will try to fix it but i'll be hard because i can't find a lot of info on google about this error

Ok, no success with rebel or empire efi, so i decided to try something else.

I used this tutorial here to create a USB with chameleon and OSX on it.

I now was able to get in the installer (select language) but my USB ports aren't working. I will keep you updated :)

Hi silentkiller,

By USB ports not working, do you mean the keyboard and mouse? If so, then just unplug them and plug them back in. If they don't work in the same ports, try them in different ports.

Zac,

I managed to get them working. Plugging them in and out didn't fix it, I had to reboot and they worked. Snow leopard is installed (updated to 10.6.2). I only can"t get my sound (ALC888 on ich10) running. I tried a load of VoodooHDA.kext files but none of them worked. The second problem is that my ATA discs or not recognized but I can live with that.

Even the second DVI port from my hd4870 where works. My TV is connected on that port with a HDMI cable (DVI => HDMI).

Which version of the VoodooHDA.kext did you use ? I tried this one here . I placed it in my /Extra/Extensions folder and removed the AppleHDA.kext in my /S/L/E folder.

Hi silentkiller,

You have to look for VoodooHDA.kext for x64, or voodoohda64. It is a bit hard to find, though. I would have uploaded it for you, but I can't get internet currently. I'm using a friend's laptop, running Windows 7. I may be able to give you a copy in a few days.

It's best if you install it with Kext Helper b7.

I have noticed that ATA drives don't work in Mac with AHCI enabled, but if you disable it, you get Still waiting for root device...

Zac,

I managed to get it working. Removing the official apple kext and putting the patched kext in the /Extra/Extensions folder didn't work. I remove the official kext and put the patched one in mij /S/L/E directory. That did work.

Here is a screenshot of my working hackintosh (even my video card is working with an output to my TV over HDMI.

Thanks for your help !
