HansTelg36
I have spended Hours!!! installing osx, i have had windows all my life and never bothered with mac. Recently i begun to open my eyes and see the apple at the end of the tunnel. Now, after only a few hours of using it, i see the simplicity, utility and eye-candines... It's truly a professional OS. I still Keep my othe Windows 7 OEM Hard drive, but i am going to use osx everyday, and windows everynow and then for games. Well... here is my How to Guide: Before i start, i am going to declare the fact am a mac noob, in the past few days a have leande an extremly large amount of info, but i will hardly be any help.. this is what works for me and if you have a quite similar set up, the you should be fine. First off, my Specs: Core i7 920 stock (no need for more, LOL) 3gb triple channel Ram (Crucial, just in case) Evga x58 Mobo (3 way sli version) Samsung 500 GB SATA HD (OSX) WD 250 GB IDE HD (windows 7) 8800 GT (evga dual slot ed) A Lite on SAta dvd burner thingy.. the rest is not really needed.. ohhh an apple sticker 1st: Bios, left SATA in IDE mode, did not make a difference at all...S1 and S3 left on.....soo pretty much does not matter, i don't know why... 2nd One of my biggest problems, the boot flag (thats how its called right? LOL) insert your iATKOS v7 and press f8 in the darwin boot promt.. and write: busratio=20 cpus=1 and you should see the apple logo 3rd you should now see your apple desktop after you clik next and all... on utilities, press disk utility.. selet your partition....(i made 4: 2 in one drive(500) MAc +Data, and Windows + Games in the 250) so i will check my first partition in the 500 gb drive, 50 gb for OSX, name it OSX.. and click erease.. then as format use mac os extende journaled.. then after you clik erase and its done, exit (red circle in teh window) and continue 4th MAke sure to select the right drive... i hate when that happens... before you begin installing, click cuztomize. this is waht worked for me, took me 5 install to find out. -Main iATKOS v7, Chamelon 2, extra directory, DSDT, DSMOS, APIC Driver, Voodoo 9.7,Disabler, OHR, remove my Thy, ACHI, intel and jmicron sata/ide, voodoo hda driver, realtek r100, post instaall.. now depending on your like.. i also put the ntfs-3g(for viewing windos files) and Nkush (my 8800 gt's hero, nothing else would work.. it was my last choice... LOL thats why 5 + installs and even more EFI strings and drivers) 5th well now install... skip the check god.. takes forever... u should have checked it when burning the DVD (FYI use nero) 6th it should restart.. take out the dvd.. u should now see the cahmelon boot.. make sure your OSX HD is first, so you can chose your Windows HD from Chamelon... and TADA OSX.. 7th ALL this is extra, but if you whant to update to 10.5.8 do so... in apple update, nothing should happen... i also tried idebs one, but my pc became unsure if it was a .7 or .8 and dint recognize my cpu.. on the other had aplle update was perfect.... EXEPT for something... the first time it botted after the update, it just restardesd halfh way and then it rebooted and everything went fime "Check up", System information" all understood it was an i7 and .8... this would happen with ideneb.....also update your apps, 8th Hug your new i7 MAc!!!!!!! I recomend oofece 08, ilife, osx86 tools, checkup, quicktime pro, utorrent, lime wire and default apps I will hopefully upload a video in youtube of my pc booting so you guys could see Also some snap shots of my stuff Works: ALL cores, recognizes i7, network, audio, you name it.. QUARTZ EXTREME all resolutions!! Dosent: Slepp'' HOW CARES??? and.. it shows a wierd front side bus... it should becouse its QPI, and it lists ddr3 as drdr 2 its probable the integraded controller and tripple channel.... Well, i dont know waht else to say... i wrote this to give back to the community... you guys gave me a perfect mac isntall Some links: Ideneb update Google: iDeneb Combo+Delta 10.5.8 first one iATKOS v7 Google: IATKOS v7 the first one too hhaaha soo ehh, do teh following for everything you whant in life. ahhaha no relyl!!! Sidetalker
Fabulous guide... the EVGA X58 Mobo has been a painnn to get workin. I'm in class now but the install is running (surely done) back at the dorm and I have the highest of hopes. I made a slight modification to your recommended packages because I have dual GTX 285s running in SLI in my system. For this I used the NVEnabler and the GTX2xx drivers in tandom... We'll see how it works out. If everything goes well (and I remember) I'll post back here with my rig specs and the packages I used. Thanks again for the great guide. Sidetalker
Great! i hope everything works out and plese tell me what did... htelg I'm in Leopard right now but I'm having some issues with my screen being ~20 px further down than it should be (~1/3 of the dock is being cut off) and I got a kernel panic whenever I installed drivers for my GTX 285s during the main OS install. I'm now in the process of trying to get them to work now that I have the main system installed and working. Will report back. HansTelg36
I'm in Leopard right now but I'm having some issues with my screen being ~20 px further down than it should be (~1/3 of the dock is being cut off) and I got a kernel panic whenever I installed drivers for my GTX 285s during the main OS install. Are you trying iAtkos? which kernel?? maybe try the older ones and look around for some efi strings guides to help you get your video settings right.... however i would sometimes get those right, its a pretty complicated method... its always much easier to use kext from the install cd, right now i am trying to sintall osx in my netbook and i am sure its much harder than my i7, i dont know if its bad luck that i never find the perfect mix... but its been one week with 15 plus installs and 4 different distros, i am going cracy.. every few boots i get a panic, i got video, audio, wirless almost, ethernet, but my voodoo 9.7 will not work right, nothing! i am doing exactly what the guides say, i am venturing on my own updating the kext... but nothing works, core i7 had lots of room where i could easily change drivers and all, but this little atom is a big chllange.... damm i should have just bought the wind.... punk_zappa
Did the 4 cores work right away after install? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/187700-installing-iatkos-v7-on-a-evga-x58-core-i7-8800-gt/#findComment-1281822 Share on other sites
HansTelg36
Did the 4 cores work right away after install? Actually, it is picking up all 8 cores becouse of the i7's hyperthreading, so OSX thinks it has 8 cores and are all at use... u cna see it on the pictures..... htelg Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/187700-installing-iatkos-v7-on-a-evga-x58-core-i7-8800-gt/#findComment-1284981 Share on other sites
MADMANKAM
Hey guys, i just put together a new computer, and i'm eager to try OSX in it, didn't even thought it would be possible with this mobo+cpu, so i would like to know if any of you who have successfully installed OSX on this configuration would be willing to help me out. I am fairly knowledgeable, although am a noob with scripting, kext, etc on OSX... The video card i have seems to me will be tricky to get to work, is a Nvidia Quadro FX 5800, the latest one, although i know on Mac the model currently working is the Quadro FX 5600. If you don't mind to help me out thru MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, or AIM chat i'd really appreciate it, just send me a PM, and once again, thank you!!!! freespinner
Hello friend, I am from Barbados and I see that you and I have similar system configs except that I am using nvidia gt240 video card. It would help tremendously if you could set out your procedure in steps like a, b, c as I am having some problems getting my setup to work. Bear in mind that I am also a NOOB that is why I ask. I hope it is not too much trouble and thanx in advance.
