xtraa
Hmm, maybe thats obvious, but I saw many threads regarding this problem and couldn't find a fix anywhere, so I thought I just write it down here. Some of us on Intel ICH get k-panics when they try to install or boot up Snow Leopard on their machine with their harddisks connected to IDE. Yes we know, Netkas made an AppleIntelPIIATA.kext but even this is not working for all of us, not even with the correct vendor and device IDs in the plist. So, if you still get kernel panics, even in 32bit mode, and you want to boot up SL badly, do the following: Short version: Use 10.5.8 Leopards IOATA and Modbins kernel. Delete PIIATA. Workie Long version: Snow Leopard Installation (Retail) 1. Follow any of the guides here (I'd recommend Prasys Guide for n00bs) 2. delete any AppleIntelPIIATA.kext from /E/E folder 3. place your old Leopard (10.5.8 worked for me) IOATAFamily.kext in the /E/E Folder 4. repair permissions of IOATAFamily.kext (chmod & chown) 5. Get Modbins Kernel, place it in the root directory and boot it. The system will accept your IOATAFamily now. Snow Leopard Boot (after install) 1. delete any AppleIntelPIIATA.kext from S/L/E or /E/E folder 2. first backup, then overwrite your IOATAFamily.kext to the S/L/E Folder with an old old Leopard (10.5.8 worked for me) IOATAFamily.kext. 3. repair permissions of IOATAFamily.kext (chmod & chown) 4. Get Modbins Kernel, place it in the root directory and boot it. The system will accept your IOATAFamily now. How to boot: If Modbins kernel is named 'mach_modbin' for example, simply type at the bootprompt: >mach_modbin -x -x32 -arch=i386 -legacy -v
