I installed the latest OS X system updates on my system.

After rebooting, many programs won't open. System Preferences, Safari, Activity Monitor, Disk Utility, and Adium to name a few.

Here is my Software Update.log if that helps.

Ehmm. Can you give me some more info, like your computer specs, your distro and the way you updated.

Specs:

Shuttle SP35P2V2 (Intel P35)

Intel Core 2 Quad

8GB RAM

Nvidia GeForce 9800GT (1GB RAM)

I used boot-132 to install from the retail DVD, and I updated using Apple's built-in updater.

I am not really familiar with boot-132. I know what it is and what it does, but not tried it out yet (cause i have AMD)

I would say save your important data and try some distro's...

Thanks, but no thanks. I used boot-132, so I could install from the retail DVD, so I wouldn't have to use a OSx86 distro ever again. Everything was working great until some update messed things up. I don't why things aren't working, I am just assuming the update broke something. Anyone else having similar problems, or know a solution?

Try updating kernel and kexts inside EFI partition/Extra folder (depending on Boot132 install location).

Updating kernel and kexts to what? I don't have an EFI partition. I use chameleon, and I have whatever kexts were in the /Extra folder when I installed it (I didn't remove or add any).

Have you done a Repair Permissions since the update?

Check in the system.log (/var/logs) to see what error msgs occur when these apps fail to start. If you scroll down the left side you will find the crashreporter logs which may well tell you which module/process is causing the problems.
