Hi, I had a working version of iATKOS v4i on my Dell Inspiron 1318 and tried to update it and all hell broke loose. I figured the best way to fix it was to start with a clean slate and reinstall. I deleted the two partitions (windows and mac), and now i'm getting a kernal panic every time I try to install (see attached pics). I've tried every boot flag imaginable (mach_970, toh, -x, busratio=20, cpus=1, cpus=2, etc.), tried updating my bios, tried switching my bios to IDE, etc., but nothing seems to work. I don't know why I'm experiencing so much trouble, since the first time I installed it, I never experienced anything like it.

Please help me fix this, I'm getting so frustrated and I really need to get OSX up and running. Thanks.

In order to boot with a different kernel, there must be some kernels in the root of the disk (in other words install them first). Thous kernels must have the right permissions to be usable.

Thanks for your help so far, its definitely been a rough journey. Unfortunately, although I understand now about how installing the other kernels would be beneficial, it seems that the links you gave me were for people who had access to terminal (meaning that they could actually get through a boot). I can't make it that far, and since I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to macs, I'm still totally lost. Is there a way to install the kernels without having to go into terminal?

Thanks for the help, I can now boot using -v voodoo. Unfortunately, I'm getting the infamous "still waiting for root device" error, but thats more a matter of trial and error, scouring the forum, and spending a lot of time working on it to get it running. Hopefully I'll get it right soon.

Thanks again for your help Das_Human. If it wasn't for you, I'd probably have thrown my laptop against the wall by now. Now its time to get back to it...
