Hi, I don't know if this is the right place for this question... I've run an application installer (Soundtrack Pro) and when I get to the installation drive choice I'm not able to install it on the external USB dongle because "This software must be installed on the running system", it says.. I know that there is no sufficient available space on the USB dongle, but I tried to chose it as installation drive because I was thinking to buy an external 2.5" hard disk to install OSX applications on it.. but if it is not possible to choose external USB hard disks as installation drive I'll avoid buying one.. At the moment I have a FAT16 filesystem on the USB dongle, should it work if I reformat it with HFS+?

Did any of you install some applications on external drives?

hehe, dongle.

Perhaps the term dongle was not correct :smoke: Say, USB Pen Drive :)

BTW I tried also to create another partition and some software, the ones with automatic installer such as iPhoto, refuses to install on the new partition, because it is not the boot volume... I'll create another thread, since the question is not related only to external drivers but also to other partitions..

Some apps you can install on seprate drives and some you can't. It all depends on the app.

As I said in http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=18675 this thing seems quite stupid, since after having installed this application where THEY want, you can move them without any problem..
