jorsh
Here are my specs: nforce 4 chipste (MCP61) geforce 9400GT (pci-e) SATA Hard Drive 1 partition "Snow leopard" (<--- active partition) 1 Partition "Windows 7" Secondary SATA Hard Drive 10.5.8 (iPC) SATA DVD with sata2ide adapter (i.e. plugged in the ide connector of the mobo - needed that to boot 10.5) AMD X64 5300+?? (it's 2.8ghz) SSE3 3GB RAM Okay i managed to install 10.6 following the guide for amd in insanelymac - which is similar to a guide that is posted here. DMG method... no usb, no DVD.... I followed the entire process and installed chameleon 2 rc3. (which lets me boot win7 and leopard, so i know at least that is working) whenever i try to boot the installed (not the installation) 10.6 it just stalls at "appleNforceATA found 0 units." i already tried different .kexts for the nforceATA with no luck... i did repair the permissions when switching .kexts... i am booting in 32 bits (arch=i386) and i tried formatting and starting all over again with the same results.... what could possibly be causing the issue?? i also tried connecting nothing but my sata hard drive to the sata-ide adapter and still get the same results... I wouldn't call this a kernel panic... it just stops there and doesn't do anything else... any help?? please?? PS I also tried retail and 10A42... same results Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/186198-booting-stucked-at-applenforceata-found-0-units/ Share on other sites
Oatman
WHY THE HECK is this community having so much issues with HDD's loading to even work... 10.5 and 10.4 never had these issues we had different issues like graphics and sound. I can't believe that 80% of the community including myself cannot get our HDD's to boot into SL. Im getting your error except mines with IntelPIIXATA.kext. All I can recommend is for you to check out netkas.org but I dont know how much help you will get. Or even check out the old iPC website for nforce support. Well 10.5 did give me a lot of troubles specially with this machine with the nforce chipset and iPC has not released anything since 10.5.6... i updated to 10.5.8 manually.... jorsh
Here tell me how you got your AMD Processor and your nForce board to install iPC, maybe I can help you with 10.6. See my g/f has a AMD and a nForce and she kernal panics upon loading the iPC 10.5.6 installation disk. well my computer is one of those stupid HP's with a "locked" BIOS (where they don't let you change pretty much aything) with ASUS mobo M2N68-LA.. I tried different distros (ideneb, iatkos) and they both gave me a black screen after loading kernel.. even on verbose, or single user or safe-mode... iPC is the only one that let me go further... but i had to use that sata-ide adapter.... what i did is i connected the adapter to the DVD drive (to "make" it IDE) and kept the HDD on the SATA port... otherwise the install disk would give me a KP... I installed it and managed to boot in safe mode... then downloaded a package with my nvidia 9000 series drivers and then added EFI strings for it... then i installed the kexts for sound and network (the one included in the dvd for the etherner did not work for me) and the seatbelt.kext (or else i would get KP when mounting DMG's) and that's pretty much it... the key is to try all the possible combinations... of what might fix the issue... i did find out that somehow the SATA DVD loses connection when booting the install dvd even after being detected.. that's why i used the adapter... I can explain with more detail through PM if you want... but in short.. that's what i did to get it working... i don't know if the built in graphics card even works with my 10.5 installation... nor have i found anything else not working... even the card reader works.... well the s-video output on my GC doesn't works...
