MadDell
On my Inspiron 8600 laptop I have a partition of XP and 10.4.6 and with Acronis OS selector it was working great, but after roughly 15 or so restarts over the course of a couple weeks I get an error from the Acronis OS selector "No configuration file found reboot" press Enter or some key to restart, which is just a big loop and I have to manually shutdown the computer. I was not able to boot to either MacOS or XP from this so I had to run the XP install disk and use the "FIXMBR" command to be able to boot into windows. So now I'm basically stuck with windows. This was the second time I installed Acronis with the same results about a month or so ago. I was able to use the chain0 method when I had 10.4.1 but ever since I got 10.4.6 it fails. With chain0 I just get a restart of the windows boot loader whenever I select macosx86. Btw this is probably not important but when I installed 10.4.6 I didn't try to upgrade I just did a fresh install. Anyway I'm sorry about the long post and if this has been covered before but if anyone can think of a way I can boot into macos and windows without having to change the active partition each time I'd appreciate it. Burn the "Acronis OS Selector" to a CD. Naxt time you get an error you can get rid of it easily using that CD Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/18618-acronis-os-selector-failure/#findComment-121834 Share on other sites
Ashgotti
ya if you have the cd you can pop it in, boot from cd, and repair acronis os selector. i've noticed if i defrag my boot files it breaks the os selector. rahi
I got yesterday same error. I just popped win98 cd in, shift-booted, typed fdisk /mbr and viola! got back to windows. At windows and next restart i noticed that acronis reinstall itself if its removed like i did. So at next boot everything was back at normal.
