  1. An Update: I turned off speedstep in the bios and it boots perfectly. Guess that's the issue. Any ideas if there is a speedstep kernel for sse2 for 10.4.11?
  2. Try it out. I just found that with an SSE2 system, 10.4.11 rev2 is the most stable and has the best hardware support. I found that leopard took a while to startup and just getting wifi working on it was a pain. I didnt even try to get my videocard setup. But with 10.4.11, I just selected SSE2 package and my hardware and installed in abou 20 minutes.
  3. I'd definitely recommend XxX 10.4.11 Rev 2 for your system. We have similar hardware and everything works for me out of the box.
  4. I have the same problem, only when I'm on battery power.

    XxX_OS_x86_10.4.11_Install_Disc_Intel

Hey guys, Using XxX 10.4.11 rev2, I've managed to have an almost perfect instlal out of the box except for two things: * Spotlight crashes (so I disabled it, not a big deal) * I can't boot when on battery/not plugged in I'm on a T42, 1.7GHZ SSE2, so I selected the SSE2 package when I installed. When I boot without being plugged in and -v, I see that it stops at the line BSD root: Disk0 line. Without -v, it doesn't stop spinning but no activity for over 5 minutes. Any ideas as to what is causing this/what it's looking for that it can't find when I'm not plugged in? If I unplug after boot, not a problem. Using it right now on battery.

    Leopard 10.5.2 on Thinkpad T42

I have it working on a T42 as well, but atheros wifi is a pain to get working (still trying). I know it'll need better videocard support too, otherwise works ok.
  8. Good stuff, but won't even boot to the install. Get's stuck at the PHY line. T42: 1.7M SSE2, 1.5GB ram, 60GB 7200RPM, etc etc. EDIT: I let it sit there for 10-15 min and it booted into the install screen. Note, you have to move hte mouse around during install or it will sleep. Will report back with post-installation. EDIT2: 1st install resulted in a it freezing after the cluster message 2nd install resulted in a kernel panic. I'm not sure which kernel setup I'm suppose to use with SSE2 so it's trial and error..just takes forever. EDIT3: Got it to install and boot but I had to keep moving the mouse. Takes about 5-10 minutes to start up but I found a fix which I have to try. First, I have to get the WiFi Working on my atheros chip. EDIT4: Went back to Kalyway's 10.5.1 and got the WiFi working.
  9. Just finished downloading (google for the torrent) and it won't boot the installer on my t42 (1.7Ghz, sse2), get's stuck at ...localhost /system/library/coreservies/coreservicesd[154]: client must provide a valid sessionID but passed 0,0 x0/0x0 version=10500000 uid=0 euid=0. cf Radar 5123589. unknown SIGFPE code 1, subcode 0
  10. Hey guys, I went from JaS's 10.4.8 to 10.4.11 while maintaining the 8.9.1 kernel, and regardless of the version, spotlight causes a kernel panic. There is no log, panic.log so I can't diagnose it. Any ideas?
  11. Just want to say thanks for this, took me a day but I got it working. T42, Pentium M 1.7GHz, SSE2, 1GB ram Took a few tries to partition it right, the installer stops for a few minutes while booting. Install options: sse2 and mbr boot.MOVE THE MOUSE DURING INSTALL. I didn't know about htis and my install screwed up the first time. Startup is long, it stops at some point, I have to investigate. Sound works, Videocard is OK, have to tweak it. My atheros wifi isn't working (odd) so I gotta look into that. Overall, I'm surprised it works as well as it does, I read up to 22 pages of this and 90% of SSE2 experiences were bad Thanks again.

    OSX86 10.4.9 boot problem

have this same issue, have not been able to figure it out yet.
  14. well i had to merge partition a+b, leave unallocated space then do diskpart. pain in the butt. installed just fine but won't boot. arg. thanks tho
  15. So I'm using a T42 with a new 60GB, 7200RPM ATA HDD. On the old HDD, 40GB 5400RPM, I was able to make a partition fat32, pop in Jas' DVD and erase it no problems. On this new one, I make the partition (tried with partition magic and acronis) but when I erase it during install, it just keeps it at FAT32. I tried right clicking the partition and clicking erase but it says there is a problem with my permissions... ideas guys?
